I see that there's more than a couple of bluegrass tunes on the list. Bluegrass ain't country! Where's Elvis??

Well, this list got me thinking of some of my country-infused favourites:

Hurt - Johnny Cash

Please Be With Me - Cowboy with Duane Allman

Blue Sky - The Allman Brothers

Love Me Tender - Elvis

Fire On The Mountain - Marshall Tucker Band

There Goes Another Love Song - The Outlaws

Pony Boy - The Allman Brothers Band

My Wife Thinks You're Dead - Junior Brown

Wild Horses - The Stones

Far Away Eyes - The Stones

Dead Flowers - The Stones

Dear Doctor - The Stones

Sudbury Saturday Night - Stompin' Tom Connors

Helpless - Neil Young

Amie - Pure Prarie League

Heard It In A Love Song - Marshall Tucker Band

Friend Of The Devil - Blue Grassy High

Panama Red - New Riders Of The Purple Sage

Mr. Bojangles - The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band

Cripple Creek - The Band

Kick Out The Jams - The MC5

A dixie Chicks song at #22 in the all time best country songs? I think not. There are tons of better songs out there. I agree with the majority of the picks - some great tunes there - but some of the picks are of newer artists whoese songs simly are not as good as some of the classic real country songs listed. When people vote for stuff like this they usually let the older forgotten classics go by the wayside.

That being said, there are some excellent picks up there - Cash, Jennings, Twitty, Nelson, Wynette, etc.

I'm surprized that CMT came up with a list that good. There certainly are a lot of Greats(Hank Merle,Tammy, Loreta, Willie, Waylon) in there...but I agree there could be many many more.

Funny that they list Man of Constant Sorrow by the "Foggy Bottom Boys". [Frown]

It's more of a television video list. Most country acts have film footage that's been made into individual song-videos.

If Grand Old Oprey didn't film those classic performers, the above list would be vastly different, and a lot more modern.
