kung Posted June 22, 2003 Report Posted June 22, 2003 I've got a nice beer/weed buzz going and was cursing god, humanity and Gentlemonkey on the way home from the Beer Store and generally thought I'd clarify some of my views about the String Cheese Incident. Would I likely love to see them play, do a good deal of swirly noodle dancing, talk about Wagner and Schopenhauer with some tweaky girls from Ohio, in short Hell Yeah. Would I have done exactly that if those tight wad pricks hadn't got all sensitive about some message board chatter and pulled my passes for out west. Say what you want but I hooked them up with alot of good media contacts and went above and beyond and they knew it and hooked me up. It was likely more that my bragging caused all these jambands/jamhubs weenies to start rolodexing Colorado and trying to get the hook up. That's what they were pissed about all the moochers. Anyways that and they've got alot to lose and nothing to gain. What they have that every other band lacks is a great organization, a front end multi-tiered organization that put them front and centre. But in general gentlemonkey pissed me off with trying to say that my whole 'free speech' rant was provoked by my sense of injustice at the Slip not being more popular. And trying to say that Bob Moses tying them into his whole 'don't cover the masters/jambands suck' rant is why they're not popular is just ponzi like a bad aluminum siding racket. It is unjust that the Slip are playing to the crowds that they are and the Cheese vice versa. But the invisible hand of the market economy, as Jeremy Bentham I believe put it, has a tendency to right such injustices. I have no doubt that there is an endless taste for mawkish treacly shite, just that ultimately right and might will and shall win out. And frankly any musician worth his/her salt nows exactly what a band like the Slip is on about and likewise the Cheese. The only thing fucking me up is why an otherwise accomplished musician like Michelle Shocked, the old bluegrass guys shit they need the money, would want to hang out with those ponzers. I figure if you do enough of anything or your bored enough you can get down with that shit.
zimmerman pt3 Posted June 23, 2003 Report Posted June 23, 2003 hey Kung, you going to write another hype article for Evolve 4? I'm still confused over the MMW Sunday afternoon time slot...
kung Posted June 23, 2003 Author Report Posted June 23, 2003 I think the Jambase guys will let me write the piece. Although the Evolve guys were majorly pissed about the piece I wrote last year. Shame on me for mentioning that the continental class jam music is counterpointed by the barely provincial class DJ's. Heady one you know the score, these dudes who normally spin should stick with playing the Pavillion at Quinpool and Robie. But with Mark Farina amongst others on the bill, Amtrak for instance, the DJ's should at least be on a par for this year.
