Schwa. Posted June 24, 2003 Report Posted June 24, 2003 Man, DD in the saloon should be fuggin great! Can't wait.
mark tonin Posted June 25, 2003 Author Report Posted June 25, 2003 Diesel Dog is blazing these days, and here is a quote to ponder about the opening band on Friday night: quote: Roberto Martinez Pereira is a 19-year-old alto saxophonist from Camaguey, Cuba, now living in Havana. A precocious young artist with an exceptional understanding of his country's rhythms, he possesses an innate awareness of how to incorporate elements of jazz, funk and other non-Cuban ingredients into his music to achieve an impressive musical hybrid. His energetic stage presence and fearless leaps into improvisation have been amazing loyal audiences across Cuba, and have placed him in the vanguard of today's most impressive and promising young Latin musicians. Peace, Mark
Schwa. Posted June 25, 2003 Report Posted June 25, 2003 How did you guys ever come across him Mark? Sounds like a sleeper ass kicking opener to me.
M Posted June 25, 2003 Report Posted June 25, 2003 SATURDAY JUNE 28: 04:30 p.m. -- Jahmalama These guys are an awesome reggae band that I've seen play in Toronto before... definitely will be a good time on a sunny Saturday!!
jay sanislo Posted June 25, 2003 Report Posted June 25, 2003 OHHHHHHHHHHH YEAAAAAAAAAAAHHHH cant wait Dont forget to check out SANZWILL to start things off on sunday afternoon 2:00pm
mark tonin Posted June 25, 2003 Author Report Posted June 25, 2003 quote: How did you guys ever come across him Mark? Sounds like a sleeper ass kicking opener to me. I believe his booking agent/manager sent Mark Wilson a package that included his cd, press clippings, etc. Peace, Mark
Schwa. Posted June 25, 2003 Report Posted June 25, 2003 Thats great that they came looking for him, means the word is out there.
secondtube Posted June 25, 2003 Report Posted June 25, 2003 so far there is no sunday night jam..... get the heck out of your horrible 2 pm slot sanilso, and get in the salloon.... you've only been playing there for four years...I THINK YOU GUYS NEEDS SOME MANAGEMENT....you guys are getting fugged over too much lately... 2 pm!!! especially considering some of the other bands time slots....did you try to email mark?
\/\/illy Posted June 25, 2003 Report Posted June 25, 2003 Is there any reason that someone hasn't hooked us up with Caution Jam or Rose Garland in the Saloon on the Sunday night? I mean predictable or not, it doesn't get any better for Saloon parties than Caution Jam. Damn, I love those boys!
secondtube Posted June 25, 2003 Report Posted June 25, 2003 an example of the email that should be sent to Mark. Dear Mr. Wilson Thank you for allowing us to play your great festival, again. We have enjoyed our experiences there, in the past, and look forward to playing again... I saw that you have a slot open for the Sunday Night Salloon gig. The last three years you have placed us in middle of the afternoon, which we have graciously accepted. The last time, you mentioned you were going to get us in an evening slot. Unfortunately, because we dont have a manager constantly reminding you about us, we may have been forgotten about, until the end. I really feel we could excel in the Sunday salloon slot, as the same bands have played the salloon slots for many a year now. If the spot hasn't been filled, we, Sanzwill, would really appreciate the opportunity to play for the Sunday night crowd. If the spot has been filled, thank you for your time, and we will do our best to draw a crowd during our Sunday middle afternoon slot. Anyways, thank you for your time, Sanzwill.... (just an example, you guys got to open your mouths....)
paisley Posted June 25, 2003 Report Posted June 25, 2003 quote:Originally posted by secondtube: I'd take a snowy may 24 before a 35 degree July 1st anyday....I hear that I like the idea of a "mystery band" Sunday night... frontier hasn't let me down yet!
Tooly Posted June 25, 2003 Report Posted June 25, 2003 good point steve, but i did email mark about the time slot, to no avail, maybe i need a fancy shmancy name to manage these dudes. ive been doing it already for months and months and months. im pumped to see the cuban sax guy, and alot of the other bands i havent seen yet. this weekends gonna rock get ready to get buzzzzzed on your birthday there stevo
jay sanislo Posted June 25, 2003 Report Posted June 25, 2003 smelter trust me it has alredy been dealt with. We talked through email and thats the best he can do since we were a late addition. But it worked out ok. Let ya know the details.
secondtube Posted June 26, 2003 Report Posted June 26, 2003 ya i heard from T you got some guest privilages.... thats cool.... just was kind hoping for a salloon slot, rather than Friends of Hef or Guesthouse, i think those two bands have had the Sunday night gig for at least three years.... Not that thats a bad thing, just need a change thats all...
M Posted June 26, 2003 Report Posted June 26, 2003 Just got this email from the Jahmalama folk: ************************** You'll notice some new but familiar faces in Jahmalama: Bernie Pitters is on rhythm keyboards - Bernie's the premier reggae keyboardist in Toronto having played with Toots and the Maytalls , Truth and Right Reggae Revue, Resinators and Bruce Cockburn among many others. D'arcy McGuire is playing bass for us. D'arcy and I go way back (to grade 4 I think) but you'll recognize him from Kidd Rasta and the Peacemakers and Sol Azul. *********************************** Don't miss these guys on Saturday... they are amazing!!!
secondtube Posted June 26, 2003 Report Posted June 26, 2003 nice! i'm so looking forward to this weekend. i believe this weekend will have the most first timers for me (bands i haven't seen before)... Sure, there will be no big bands....ala slip, wassabi, BUT, i believe this weekend is going to be pure solid!!! Oh, the weather, low to mid 20's all weekend long....NO 30's or 40's (like today in Hamilton).... I'd take a snowy may 24 before a 35 degree July 1st anyday....
