zimmerman pt3 Posted June 26, 2003 Report Posted June 26, 2003 Hey, just curious what's your opinion or knowledge on trademark copyright infringement? for example: someone makes a shirt, ripping off the 7-11 logo with phish's 7-Below, does this person risk getting busted by 7-11? Also, do you think it's gonna be easy or hectic as fuck to sell shirts at the Sars fest show? just to note: I have no intention of violating 7-11 nor will be in Toronto for the Sarsfest gig
MoMack Posted June 26, 2003 Report Posted June 26, 2003 WITHOUT PREJUDICE My unprofessional opinion would be a simple yes. You do risk being busted. The real question is how much of a risk is it? I would say there would be a better chance that Trey's goons would bust you and take your shirts then 7-11. Toronto will likely be chaotic enough that it shouldn't matter too much, unless you piss off the wrong person. The scariest place would be the boarder. Not sure how it'd work, but if they found them there they could snap, because well its the boarder...
zimmerman pt3 Posted June 26, 2003 Author Report Posted June 26, 2003 thanks MoMack, any more suggestions/comments? I'm aware that Amy and crew will be out in phull phorce snatching up everything, but the 7-Below shirt, for example, is being auctioned on E-bay. What about others who fall into this category ('cause I doubt 7-11's cracking down on bootleggers)? But what about those who ripp off Holiday Inn (Runaway Jim) or the Godfather (the Divided Sky), etc...
MoMack Posted June 26, 2003 Report Posted June 26, 2003 WITHOUT PREJUDICE I would guess that none of the other places care too much, for them its almost free advertising. On the other hand, some greedy bastards see it as one less shirt that they get to sell and therefore one more tour to the caymen revue... (oops, is my bias showing. I love the music, I just hate seeing them crack down on kids trying to make a buck to buy a ticket...)
skelter Posted June 26, 2003 Report Posted June 26, 2003 chances are, if what you're doing is a low key operation (IE just selling at shows) then the worst that'll happen is your shit will get confiscated ... however, if you're selling them in a shop or an online store, you could get spanked a little harder
Jaimoe Posted June 27, 2003 Report Posted June 27, 2003 I saw a couple of hippy dudes selling Allman Brothers shirts at the Molson Amphitheatre a few years ago. The shirts had the band's offical logo on full display. These guys definitely were not members of the Allman Brothers organization. These hippy salesmen were moving around the exiting crowd quite a bit ( i.e. no shirt stand ). Maybe that's the key. Of course, the SARS show will be 10 times as big as the Allmans show, with plenty more cops around. Good luck. Be low-key.
