Velvet
Does anyone know of the poem called (I believe) "Marshall"? It starts something like, "Marshall decided if he were a bean, he would be a borlotti bean..."I'm looking for it online but I don't know who wrote it.I'm just curious to read it again, I haven't read it in over fifteen years. Tooly
I thought this was going to be about the right spelling of Nantucket.
Velvet
I can't remember much else about the poem, but I figured that a poem about a guy named Marshall (or Marshal I guess) wondering what kind of bean he would be, given the chance, would be enough to jar someone's memory. And if bradm can't find it, I figure it's not out there. SteveThe Owl
Doesn't ring a bell... Do you remember where you read it? Anything like that? Let me know if you ever find out. With an opening like that, sounds cool.

mattm
Well, the poem you are looking for is most likely "Marshall" by George Macbeth which starts "It occurred to Marshall that if he were a vegetable, he’d be a bean."I can't find an actual copy of the poem anywhere, though, so you're on your own

mattm
It was tough but I remember reading that one as well so it piqued my curiosity. I'll tell you, though, I only found a reference to it on one page and it's rather obscure:http://pdfs.voya.com/VO/YA2/VOYA200404PoetryContagious.pdfIt's on the second page somewhere. I'm not a poetry guru, though. I have a terrible memory so I often have to relearn things over and over again so I just learned how to search really well to save time. Velvet
Still haven't found the complete poem, but I've found a reference to it as being by George Meredeth. Hmmmm, Macbeth or Meredeth?
mattm
well, meredith was easy enough to find shit about:http://www.literaturemania.com/gn06v10/which is from project gutenberg which is a fairly interesting looking project. I couldn't find anything with him that has to do with that poem though, other than one reference from a woman's page that has the opening line quoted (seems to be a page on opening lines with related quotes underneath).
