UK judge dismisses Bob Marley bass player lawsuit

16 May 2006

LONDON: A UK judge has dismissed a lawsuit filed by Bob Marley's bass guitarist Aston "Family Man" Barrett, who was seeking 60 million pounds ($NZ181.96 million) in unpaid royalties from Island Records and the Marley family.

Barrett, who has 52 children, had testified in London's High Court that he and his brother Carlton Barrett, a drummer for the famous reggae band who was murdered in 1985, did not receive much money following Marley's death from cancer in 1981.

They played on numerous albums by Bob Marley and the Wailers, including "Natty Dread", "Rastaman Vibration" and "Babylon by Bus".

I've actually heard Marley had upwards of 30 children. Only something like a dozen are recognized as being his own though. It's the "whole one shot, make a baby you know, Jah, Rastafari! A Lion must spread his seed throughout"

polygamy is pretty universal in Jamaica, mon

considering how much Marley's music has made for people who had nothing to do with the music, you'd figure someone could toss someone integral to the music a little flow (though its anyone's guess whether its actually destined for any of the guys wives or children)

if your ass is shakin to the guys bass line, a little of the money you spend on the CD box set should go to the guy
