Jay Funk Dawg
A Sweaty night of Downtempo, Nu-Dub and World Fusion FRIDAY, JUNE 2nd Eccodek www.eccodek.com Dubmatix www.dubmatix.com Dubstylist www.dubstylist.com DJ Medicineman (CIUT 89.5FM) LEE's PALACE 529 Bloor St. W. - 416.532.1598 $12 * first 50 people get a free MEDICINEMAN CD MIX 9PM On Friday, June 2nd at Lee's Palace, Toronto join us for a night of LIVE progressive dub, electronic and world fusion, featuring some of Canada's hottest bands on the scene. The night promises to be a sweaty throwdown of bass heavy grooves, innovative dubtronic and other-worldly voices. Doors open at 9pm. Admission is $12. The first 50 people receive a free exclusive CD featuring a mix of the night's three bands. ECCODEK has emerged as one of Canada's brightest new talents on the dub and global fusion scene. Their innovative melding of downtempo, tribal, electronic and ethnic voices recently had U.S. magazine Global Rhythm boasting, "Eccodek reveals the face of global music." Exclaim! calls the new Voices Have Eyes a much anticipated album from Canada's best known world beat artist". ECCODEK's latest has been sitting in both the Earshot! and Chart Attack top 10 world and electronic charts for months while making waves internationally. Current negotiations with White Swan World - Ryko will soon take the project to the international stage as Voices… and the previous release More Africa in Us are set for re-release in North America. Also look for the release of the title track on PALM PICTURES' Summer release Earth Rise. Toronto's DUBMATIX are no strangers to the dub community. Main man Jesse King has created a bonafide juggernaut of steppers dub, roots reggae, roots dub and electro dub with Champion Sound Clash. Exclaim! writes, "King has created an assured, polished and individual release…", while Riddim Mag declared, "Rarely, very rarely has any album ever knocked me for as great a loop as this one!" With Champion… King's dub crew have made waves across Canada and the UK where their infectious concoction of old and new school dub suggest that Jamaica isn't the only place to find the deep dark riddim. This Summer will see the release of their highly anticipated sophomore release Atomic Subsonic. Newcomers DUBSTYLIST bring a fresh new face to the reggae-influenced world of dub and downtempo. The band unleashes a heady stew of live improvisation where the 3-piece wrecking crew trade off on a myriad of instruments, often mid-song. Weaving old school reggae, sweet vocal melodies and seriously spaced out synths, overtop a bedrock of deep rhythms, DUBSTYLIST is sure to have even the most jaded cynic testing the low end theory. Currently finishing up tracks for their first commercial release, the band is part of the progressive wave taking clubs and soundsystems by storm. MEDICINEMAN, from No Man's Land - CIUT 89.5 FM continues to demonstrate why he is the pre-eminent world fusion DJ in the Toronto area and arguably in Canada. His mid-week global groove show consistently ranks among the top of the heap for popularity and listenership. It's no secret why labels like Six Degrees, Realworld, Wagram, Palm Pictures, Stereo Deluxe and Echo Beach go to the doctor when a new release needs to hit the airwaves. A tastemaker of the highest order and regular contributor to Toronto's festival, concert and club scene, MEDICINEMAN will spin sets throughout the night to keep the dub thumping and heart's pumping. www.dubstylist.com www.eccodek.com www.dubmatix.com www.smallworldmusic.com www.nufunk.ca
