StoneMtn
[color:red]DR. JOHN He is one of the biggest legends ever to come out of New Orleans. Dr. John (Mac Rebennack) belongs to a musical continuum that stretches from Louis Armstrong and Jelly Roll Morton to Wynton Marsalis and the Neville Brothers. Growing up, he absorbed all the traditional sounds of the Big Easy—blues, junky blues, funk, gospel, R&B, barrelhouse and boogie, jazz, creole voodoo—you name it. Eventually he rose to become one of the most original pianist/vocalists on the music scene. His first album Gris Gris (1968) skyrocketed him to fame. Along the way he managed to write several hundred songs, work as a Super Sideman with Bob Dylan, Mick Jagger, and Eric Clapton, and tour with Ringo Starr’s All-Star Band. The flamboyant and hypnotic performer also has over 20 solo records to his credit, two Grammy Awards, and, in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, he continues to be a celebrated ambassador of New Orleans music. Get set as the good Doctor returns to town to spread the “rockin’ pneumonia†and the “boogie-woogie flu†as only he can.
