Blane
Finally getting a minute to write down a few notes about the weekend. Overall an awesome experience! For the first year of a festival they really pulled it off flawlessly. Superb venue (car-free access, lots of trees, lots of chill spaces), totally laid back security, no delays, and the weather managed to cooperate! We had some showers at 2 points in the day sunday and that was all. Not too cold and not too windy. Here's what I managed to catch:Sat:Think about life (lots of fun & energy)Dinosaur Jr. (great set!)Metric (didn't expect much but they put on a really impressive set)Wintersleep (surprise band of the weekend for me. Totally impressive)Amon Tobin (put on a SMOKING but short DJ set)Sonic Youth (simply awesome)Sun:Islands (fun start to the day)Wolf Parade (unfortunately marred by technical probs but still pretty good)Hidden Cameras (pretty good, but not mind-blowing)Bell Orchestre (awesome. Best set I've seen them play)Kid Koala (fun little set)Flaming Lips (holy shit! What a party!)Ben Harper (pretty lame, but we walked up the hill overlooking the venue and the city skyline and chilled out, which made it kinda cool)Anyhow, for 80 bucks this is a MUST SEE for next year folks. So easy, so many cool things going on, and lots of great canadian talent.Good to see a few jambands.ca folk there too! Blane
Put these up for some montrealers, but figured I"d share it here too. Just some MP3 versions of the shows I taped: Because uploading them is a pain, I grouped them into 3 batches. Links are beside them. Pretty happy with how all of them came out except the Dinosaur Jr., which is a bit muddy and has Ollie howling in one channel . Batch 1: Think About Life, Dinosaur Jr., Sonic Youth http://www.megaupload.com/?d=TZYXRTGZ Batch 2: Islands, Wolf Parade http://www.megaupload.com/?d=FD1ON8V0 Batch 3: Bell Orchestre, Kid Koala, Flaming Lips http://www.megaupload.com/?d=T422STA8 Just click on the link, enter the code (letters you see) and wait 45 seconds for the download link to appear. Enjoy!
ollie
Pretty happy with how all of them came out except the Dinosaur Jr., which is a bit muddy and has Ollie howling in one channel . Only between songs though I hope. Although given how close I was standing to you I can imagine it gets pretty old after a while. Sorry, that was my freakout set of the weekend! Thanks a lot for the mp3s!!
Blane
no worries ollie, I just included that as a jab. Yeah, it's not really during the music. Check it out. I"m also sending sloth a DVD of the FLAC files in the mail, so he'll have that.Hey, and if you can tell me the Dinosaur Jr. setlist that would be great! Northern Wish
Totally great from start to finish. I have nothing but great things to say about the setup, sound system, toilets, beer and merch tents- EVERYTHING.Great to meet you finally Blane, and seeing The Sloth and Laura is always a treat.I agree with a lot of this, but had to mention that Ben Lees cover of Float On Sunday afternoon was one of my highlights not mentioned here. It was a weekend of strange covers from bands I wasn't expecting to hear play covers (short festival sets and all):Dino Jr- The Cure, Just Like HeavenBen Lee- Float On, Modest MouseG Love- She Caught the Katy, Taj MahalDamn memory, there are two more I can't recall right now..............Awesome weekend in the city, just ragin from noon till morning every day.............Also of note was the incredible rainbow during the Damian Marley set that had half the crowd confused whether or not to face the stage or turn around for weathers encore.Highlights:FLAMING LIPSThe StillsDinosaur Jr.Wolf ParadeG LoveMalajubeI will most certainly be in attendance next year if it happens....... Maybe Brad Barr will be there again too!Sean Edited September 6, 2006 by Guest

Blane
caught most of their set while waiting for Sonic Youth to start. I thought they were pretty fun. Very poppy, but tight and fun.
Northern Wish
They were ok, almost deserving of a "meh"......Mostly due to the hype that I've heard and I felt they did not live up to.There were many other bands I would go see again before entertaining these guys.Sean
ollie
Here are some photos I took at Osheaga: I'm working on a review but it might take me a few more days. Northern Wish, nice to meet you, if ever so briefly, before The Lips.
