A neighbourly heads up for you all: This opportunity is for youth between the ages of 18 and 30. The deadline for receiving applications is September 8, 2006 and the contact information is set out below.

The 2007 World Youth Ship is Seeking 10 young Canadians (Applicants must be between the ages of 18 to 30)

For the second year in a row, 10 young Canadians will embark the Ship for World Youth (SWY) with of objective of making a difference in the world. Through the generosity of the Government of Japan, delegates will join young leaders from every continent to participate in the 19th journey of the most original and exciting cross-cultural exchange ever conceived.

From mid-January to early March 2007, 120 Japanese and 144 youth from 12 other nations will live together on a ship as it travels from Japan to Tonga, Australia, and Fiji. This is the 10th time Canada has been selected as a participant nation.

The purpose of the Ship for World Youth is to promote international understanding and friendship between youth from Japan and other parts of the world. Delegates will attend seminars and lectures given by world-class professors and discuss new avenues to overcome the challenges humanity has to face today. Mixed with cultural and sporting activities and port-of-call visits, this is an invitation for unique opportunities to interact with a wide variety of people from different backgrounds and experiences. Please note that English is the working language on the Ship and that all program costs (travel, etc.) are covered by Japan.

Important : Looking for Diversity in the Canadian Delegation

The selection committee is looking for wide range of aptitudes and interests. That's why past selections included young members of NGOs, musicians, webmasters, lawyers, journalists, circus artists (etc.) from every province and territory.

The Student Work Abroad Program (SWAP) of the Canadian Federation of Students (CFS), on behalf of Canada's Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, in Ottawa, is organizing this recruitment. The selection of the 10 Canadian delegates will be done in concert with the Canadian Ship Alumni Association.

This sounds amazing! I won't be applying this year however, as I'm far from home and not prepared at all. I wonder if this is not the same as the Peace Boat.

This is the part that intimidates me.. Do they have room for a currently unemployed Bachelor of Arts degree holder and veteran pool boy? Who also taught English for a year in Korea?
