Freeker
Just saw a kid walking down Preston with a foot long hookah smoking his brains out. He had a big hand made canada/pot leaf flag on his backpack. Isn't it strange how different yet the same things are now, I never really think about it until I see something like that. Kinda like yesterday I was reading a post about Border laws straight from the gov't and in it it said, "marijuana which is basically legal in Ontario now" Just kinda makes you go, Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa?!?!?!? Velvet
Just heard on the radio this morning that a girl in Toronto called the cops and reported that she had two grams of pot stolen. The cops had no choice but to try and help her out. First case of that, apparently. The cop also said that officers are reporting that people are openly smoking an awful lot, and that one guy was blatently open-smoking in his car. The cop was powerless to do anything. Guest Low Roller
Walking down the street with a hookah? Wicked. Who needs to go to Amsterdam now?? This will probably raise a few hairs, but I hope that the government drafts a law against driving under any form of impairment if that doesn't already exist. I think the freedom to smoke when you want is pretty cool, but driving under any kind of influence is dangerous. Noted, alcohol is way worse, but pot also slows down reaction time. I don't buy the "smoking weed makes me drive safer" argument.
kung
The best comment I've heard is from this guy who owns RoachORama, whose surname oddly enough is actually Roach, it's the headshop/coffee bar in Kensigton that's been flouting the loophole. Anyways he said he wasn't trying to make some big political statement just trying to normalize things a tad. When you think about it it's amazing that we think we're so progressive because we're now going to allow gay people to marry and draw benefits and pay taxes while smoking a green herb that grows in ditches and cullies. The cops were asked to respond and they said the fact that we've never heard of this place shows you how low down on our list of priorities this is. Fuckholes
Walking home from the beer store, eager to get my party started, I sparked a nice fat joint not realizing there was a cop cruser straight across from me. At first i felt as if i was doing something wrong. About to put the joint out, i see the cop just shaking his head as if i were eh little druggie punk... I nodded back and was on my merry way... GO CANADA!!!

bouche
I think it is illegal to drive under any impairment. For instance, if you just found out your $5000 prize bird was eaten by a cat, and you are hysterically crying and whining over your stupid bird that you shouldn't have wasted all that money on in the first place, and driving a car, you could be charged with impairment. Under the influence is a different story. -- What memories are we talking about here?
TonyRage
The law is most definately against all forms of impairment. But, there is no roadside test for Marijuana so it is impossible to prove. But, goo point on the reaction time. I admit I drive high all the time. But I never come off the bong into the car, I try and chill out first. secondtube
personally, if you smoke in public, your hurting everything we have been fighting for. this i'm very adamant about. we SHOULD NOT Be flaunting our newfound rights like 'some' people are. skerny, i walk down the street puffing too. i'm not talking about you.... if you are puffing a bong walking down the street, at front steps of city hall, or THE WORST, at a police station, you should be SHOT! well maybe not that harsh, but almost. WE LOOK LIKE SUCH FUCKUPS abusing what we've aquired.
secondtube
quote: But, there is no roadside test for Marijuana so it is impossible to prove actually there is. There is a patch that you were over an eye for 30 seconds that registers the gases being emitted from you pupil, allowing them to test for thc presence. not only has this test been proved to work for presence of thc, they have actually refined it enough to test the amount of thc ingested.... i'm off to try and find a link... paisley
driving at a relaxed pace comes pretty easy if you're a little baked (depending whats on the stereo)... best to drive straight but if you're stuck just take it easy I didn't worry much about the law before anyone mentioned decriminalizing, probably won't affect my life much now... an added level of calm when standing outside the bar I guess

secondtube
skerny, i specificially said not you. you weren't smoking a hooka on the steps of city hall or a cop shop. but i think some dude with a pot leaf on his back walking down the street hitting a hookah isn't the slightest bit beneficial. ps. i'm transferring that minidisc as we speak. Tooly
quote: Illegal search and seizure !! this is one of my favourite phrases in the legal language, i got over 2 ounces, some of it broken down to sell thrown out of court due to illegal search and seizure. if they ever try to detain you, telling you that you match a description, they have to read your rights to you, even if your just being detained, not arrested, they put me in the backseat, with the door open, bcuz i was just being detained, but they never read my rights, i got off scott free woohoo! really pays to know yoru rights, and to have lawyer friends close to your family now for smoking bongs down the street, ill pass on that, just seems like your asking for them to hassle you.... Velvet
Hux, you say, "also remember.....the law hasn't been passed yet.... " (sorry, I don't know how to do the quote thing), and again I am shocked to realise how few people know that: ABOUT SIX WEEKS AGO A COURT IN WINDSOR DECLARED THAT POSSESION OF UNDER THIRTY GRAMS OF POT IS NOW NO LONGER ILLEGAL IN ANY WAY IN ONTARIO. Sorry for the caps, but it's important to be clear. This ruling has nothing to do with the discussion around decriminalisation, they just happen to coincide time-wise, and it's only in Ontario. There are several other provinces that have been waiting on the Ontario ruling, and though they are not required to follow their ruling, most expect they will. I heard the lawyer who won the case on the radio twice now (gotta love the CBC), and the last time he said that all law enforcers in the province are now aware of the situation, and if anyone tries to arrest you for possesion of under thirty grams you should inform the cop that you will sue for false arrest. I find it funny how little this was reported, but I suppose it was overshadowed by the decrim talk. I hope decrim never happens. So for those of you that were unaware, look it up on the net someplace and celebrate! MARIJAUNA IS NOT ILLIGAL IN ONTARIO. TODAY. RIGHT FUCKIN' NOW. No fine, no jail, no worries, no nothin'. Too bad I'm outta pot. Oh yeah...I don't think anything is ever 'legal', it's just that some things are 'illegal'. It's not like they have a list of all the things you're allowed to do, or like when they change laws they take things out of the illegal book and put them in the legal book, they just erase them. From the legal books. Weird that legal books are lists of things that are illegal.
Hux
....I don't dispute at all that at this moment, it is legal, or at least there are no legal repercussions....but....when there is a law, that law will be enforced, and certain parts of that bill could still be changed, ie. amounts being reduced, or whatever...so to a degree this is a trial period. If things were to get out of hand, you could easily see a harsher reality, come the fall when the bill hopefully gets passed. I don't honestly think that'll happen....not trying to be harsh, just reminding that this is still a "transitional" moment....
