Velvet
Along with the Flecktones, so far I'm liking the Bluesfest choices this year. Jerry Lee Lewis to play Bluesfest The Ottawa CitizenPublished: Wednesday, January 24, 2007 Jerry Lee Lewis, one of the early architects of rock 'n' roll, appears to be headed to Bluesfest this summer.According to information from the artist's record label, the 71-year-old singer-songwriter-pianist will play Ottawa on July 12. Bluesfest officials declined to confirm the news, but say they plan to announce the entire lineup of headliners at a press conference on April 25.Ottawa biggest music festival runs from July 6 to 15 in its spacious new LeBreton Flats location on the grounds of the Canadian War Museum.Lewis, nicknamed The Killer, has been pumping the piano keys since the 1950s, striking gold with singles such as Whole Lotta Shaking Going On, Great Balls of Fire and Good Golly Miss Molly, while his tastes for wine, women and guns generated plenty of controversy in the early years. After a long period of silence, rock's original bad boy released a fine new album last fall, his first studio effort since 1995. Last Man Standing is a collection of duets featuring Lewis playing his heart out with superstar artists such as B.B. King, Bruce Springsteen, Neil Young, Willie Nelson and Eric Clapton. His daughter, Phoebe Lewis, who's also his manager (and the product of Lewis's scandalous third marriage to his 13-year-old second cousin in the 1950s) maintains a blog on his website, www.jerryleelewis.com. In a recent posting, she writes that "Daddy could be taking it easy and basking in the well-deserved admiration earned from years and years of performing in front of audiences around the world."But, she adds: "Jerry Lee Lewis loves what he does and what he loves most is to entertain the folks that spend their hard earned money on a ticket." Jaimoe
I've seen some recent Killer performances on Conan and Leno. He still has some chops and the living legend status makes catching his act important.
