Jaimoe
Thanks for the TV update! I was planning on catching only the Allmans this week, but now I have to tape Kings Of Leon, Ween and Robert Randolph. I'll tune in for the QOTSA perfomance too. Jane's Addiction should be interesting.
M
Glad to help! But where's the love for Gwar?
Jaimoe
Actually, the Stripes performance was quite good on SNL; the only reason to watch that re-run. I love the Stripes. I'm going to their concert in November. I can't wait. Nardwar is crazy and I might tune in to his show. GWAR sucks but at least they're fun. M
I agree with your Gwar equation. I believe I will be at the Stripes show as well. Need to see them again after their opener for the Stones. I don't think it defined them. I'd like to see them again.
Jaimoe
I hope you have tickets M for the Stripes show? It sold out in a few hours two months ago. Don't judge the WS by the way they were presented at the Stones Toronto concert. No band sounds good opening for the Stones ( in large venues; SARSFEST excluded ). I've only heard great things about the Stripes' live shows. Certainly, every time I've seen them live on television ( like on Conan, Glastonbury Festival and even SNL ) they've impressed. Also, every person that I've spoken with that's seen them live ( other than the Stones opener - friends of mine that love them didn't at the Stones show ) said that they kicked it hard - I've read only great reviews too. Looking forward to November.
M
I have "friends in high places" as they say, so luckily hard tickets in Toronto aren't a problem. And I definitely wouldn't judge them based on the Stones opener; rather, I'm intrigued of what I know of to date. It will rock beyond a doubt. Jaimoe
M, if you caught The White Stripes' performance from last year's Glastonbury Festival, you should be psyched. " Ball & Biscuit " scared the hell out of me. The crowd didn't have a chance. I love garage rock and delta blues so as you can see, I'm geared for this show. M
Oh yeah, were you the one that liked D4 when I mentioned a while back on here that I was at that show?
Jaimoe
Not me on the D4, however I have my eye on those Kiwi boys. How was the show?
M
My recollection of it now is a tad foggy... but I do remember feeling the same feeling of rejuvination at that show that I had felt at a Clash tribute show I had been to prior. The charge/release factor was everpresent. They were short, aggresive and packed a punch (the songs, that is) and all in all managed to achieve heightened emotion through pure adreneleine. Jaimoe
Great! Then I think you'll like the band opening up for The Kings Of Leon next week at Lee's Palace: Jet. I'm all over this concert. Don't forget that the Allmans and Kings are on Leno and Letterman tonight ( unfortunately at approximately the same time ). M
Cool... I've read good things about Jet. Should be a good one. And from what I recall, they are quite easy on the eyes as well. Going to miss Allmans etc. as I'm off to the bar now... but enjoy!
Raven_Space
Also on Thursday night: Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers are on PBS. A whole hour long show on the program "Soundstage". PS - The White Stripes didn't play at the SARS show, did they? Are you confusing them with the Flaming Lips?
Jaimoe
No, I'm not confusing the Lips with the Stripes. I meant that the scheduled opening acts for the Stones through the years have never played or sounded good, except for the bands that " opened " for the Stones at the SARSFEST. Raven_Space
Living Colour sounded good opening for the Stones, my uncle says Stevie Wonder blew the Stones away in 1972. It's all a matter of opinion.
Jaimoe
Sometimes it's a matter of opinion. I thought Living Color sucked opening for the Stones, and I'm a Living Color fan. They had bad sound and the crowd was not into them.
