Artist links: http://www.myspace.com/rebelrhythm http://www.myspace.com/telmarydiaz http://www.misterbryans.com http://www.myspace.com/alexisbaro http://www.myspace.com/dosmundos **** Rebel Rhythm: Listen in your mind for burning Latin and Funk beats, sizzling to the embrace of cool Jazz harmonies -- like flowing lava meeting the ocean. Rebel Rhythm thrives on genre-defying innovation both in the recording studio and on the stage. The band’s performances never fail to erupt into hot percussion jams and sweat-drenched dance frenzies. Jazzy Keyboard harmonies provide relief like a cool breeze while smooth vocals and horn lines complete the euphoria. Featuring former members of Mambo Urbano, Rebel Rhythm's new CD "Nuestra Musica" is rocking Toronto's Latin airwaves on a regular basis. Performing on September 20 will be: Amadeo Ventura (keyboards), Mario “Mayito†Del Monte (trumpet and percussion), Ernesto Ventura (congas and percussion) Jesse Turton (bass), and Trevor Yearwood drums) with special guest rappers J. Milla, Cypher & Bigg C. Telmary with DJ Billy Bryans: If you haven't seen Telmary live yet, you need to. One part battle-rapper and life educator, one part soul diva and vocal performance artist -- it all adds up to one of the most authentically dynamic and charismatic female performers in the world. For this show, Havana's reigning street poetess laureate will be in her natural hiphop element dropping her rhyme styles over beats from Billy Bryans, Toronto's authority on new Cuban music and also the drummer for beloved Canadian world-pop pioneers Parachute Club. Bryans will be sharing the selection decks with eLman as well. Alexis Baro Quintet: This fiery groove, funk, Latin, rock, R & B and jazz mashup reflects the inspirations Cuban trumpet virtuoso Alexis Baro has been given since making Toronto his home in 2001. Alexis has toured with artists such as: Canefire, Kollage, Hilario Duran and David Rudder. He has also performed with Paquito D'Rivera, Arturo Sandoval, Andrea Bocelli, Omara Portuondo, Robert Goulet, Paul Shaeffer, Paul Anka, David Foster, Babyface, Wayne Newton, and Michael Buble. In 2004 he and Kollage received a National Jazz award for best acoustic group; Baro has also been nominated many times for trumpeter of the year. In 2007 he was co-winner of a Juno Award with Hilario Duran's Big Band. DJ eLman: aka Sergio Elmir, he hosts Toronto's only alternative Latin radio program "Dos Mundos" every Tuesday afternoon from noon to 2 pm. Tune in to CIUT 89.5 FM or online at http://www.ciut.fm ... eLman's tastemaking party portfolio of late includes introducing Montreal's amazing Psychotropical Orchestra to Toronto at Lula Lounge, the Zizek Collective from Buenos Aires that rocked Ritmo Y Color at Harbourfont, and Rebel Rhythm's summer CD release at Supermarket. **** About NuFunk.ca Led by Toronto promoter & musician Jay Cleary, NuFunk has earned a reputation as one of the city's most passionate and eclectic presenters of live music and DJ parties with over 400 events since being founded in 2005.
