Pilot project underway: some Westboro water fountains now serve up sparkling water

A state of the art carbonation system has been introduced to water fountains in select parks in Ottawa’s storied Westboro neighbourhood. After months of negotiations with French company “Gas y Fey”- manufacturer of the carbonation system- Westboro councilors quietly installed the systems in various parks in and around the area.

 

Councilor Donald Pratt outlined his vision for the project, “Most residents of the Westboro area have come to expect a higher standard of living and we feel that offering sparkling hydration spots in conspicuous and salient locations helps satisfy this need.”

 

The system has incorporated a scanner to check the home address on clients’ driver’s licences to ensure that residents from outside Westboro-proper don’t abuse the system. Visitors to the area, however, are not without options as taps serving up commonplace water have been made available in alleyways behind most public buildings.
