It is, with the objective of bringing people together to discuss and exchange information on the currently expanding manipulation of the mass media, that we are doing so. Our aim is to illustrate the pivotal role played by corporate-sponsored mass media in manipulating public perception about the world by controlling what we think about and how we think about it. Our objective is to enable people to detect media biases and think critically, a necessary initial step towards re-building the foundations of a better, and fully democratic, society. We aim to empower people, to make them aware that we are the masters of our fate and we do not have to depend on others to grant us what is already ours. Our freedom. Our rights. Our dignity. We aim to promote a form of “public journalism” in which the media enhance citizens’ participation in an effective public life and help them regain control over their public affairs. We aim to provide people with the necessary sense of public commitment to actively engage in public discourse. We intend to impart the knowledge, tools and skills necessary to be the media and create alternative channels of communication so that people can express themselves and effectively exercise their democratic rights and responsibilities. This is the time to take actions to reclaim our sovereign freedom, rights, privacy and dignity in a corporate-controlled mass-mediated society. Join the mediamorphosis at Carleton University, in Ottawa, on March 4-6, 2004. Hope to see some of you there, GNN.tv
