  1. Hi everyone,

I just wanted to say that our gig at Cafe Dekcuf this Saturday with our good friends Stephen Franke and Noises From The Toolshed will be our last performance with our drummer Trevor.

Trevor has decided to move on and try his hand at other projects.

We wish Trevor the best of luck with all his future projects and thank him for helping get Inglewood Jack out of the basement and into the clubs.

Hope to see you guys Saturday.. should be a great party!

  2. After a bit of a break (since Hallowe'en), Inglewood Jack is bringing the funk to Ottawa South this Saturday, February 17 at The Thirsty Toad (Bank St., near the Billings Bridge mall). Sharing the bill with us will be The Pejoratives (who used to be the rhythm section of Stairwell K).

The cover is $7 at the door, or tickets in advance can be bought from members of either band for $5. (If you want an advance ticket, and can't get hold of a band member, send a Private Topic to me with your name, and we'll put you on an "advance ticket" list for the cheap price.)

As a bonus, the first two people who send a Private Topic to me will each get two free spots on the guest list.

The doors open at 9pm, and The Pejoratives should hit the stage at 10pm, for an hour and a half, with Inglewood Jack starting around midnight.

As well, this Thursday, Feb. 15, during their usual (free!) Thursday night slot at The Clock Tower brew pub (Bank St. and The Queensway), The Pejoratives will have members of Inglewood Jack sitting in; I think our DJ D-Mass will be bringing his turntables, so that should be a fun mix with The Pejoratives' jazzy/funky playing, as well as a nice tasty appetizer for the main dish(es) on Saturday.

We're really excited about this show, as it's a new venue (as well as a new neighbourhood) for us; we're also going to have a bit more time to "stretch" a bit and make the funk a bit jammier, so if you can make it, we'd really appreciate it.

  3. On Saturday, Oct. 28, 2006, at The Bytown Tavern on Elgin St. in Ottawa, jambands.ca presents The Hallowe'en Horror Fest, featuring The Tad Hackish Band, Inglewood Jack, and headliners The Souljazz Orchestra.

The cover charge is $7, or $5 if you're in costume. (Insider information has leaked out that bradm will be in a costume.) The doors open at 9pm, and since that weekend is the end of Daylight Savings Time, and the clocks go back an hour at 2am, we have no idea when it'll end.

Hallowe'en. Spookiness. Three great bands. Costumes. Cheap cover. Possibly an extra hour to party. If you're in Ottawa, you should be there.

  4. After a little break (we here at Inglewood Jack, Inc., eschew the use of the word "hiatus") from doing shows over the summer, Inglewood Jack will be opening up for What The Thunder Said at Cafe Dekcuf in Ottawa on Saturday, Sept. 16. The current plan is one set of IJ, then two full sets of WTTS, which will be the first time WTTS has been able to do this in Ottawa.

Cover is $8, or $5 with valid student ID.

  5. You saved me a bump. ;)

I also want to add a special plea: this is WTTS' first visit to Ottawa (correct me if I'm wrong, Deeps), and it'd be great to give them as much time as possible on stage to show off what they can do. So the earlier people arrive, the earlier I can get on stage, which means Lure can start earlier, which means WTTS can get out as much music as they can before closing time.

In other words: the earlier you get there, the more music there'll be, and the more fun you'll have. I want to start at 10pm, but I'm fearful a lot of people will miss the set, not to mention having to possibly play to an empty bar; I'm fearful, but hopeful I'll be proven wrong. :)

  8. hmmmm, march 10, with WTTSaid.

    tempting.

We had a ball sharing the bill and playing with them back in September at Wakefest. With Lure, who's one of the better bands in Ottawa these days, also on the bill, this promises to be a fun night.

Thinking ahead, IJ would also like to set up a gig (ideally in Ottawa) for Saturday, April 1. If there are any bands out there who are thinking of trying to get a gig in Ottawa for around thát time and who think IJ might be a good addition to the bill, let us know.

  9. Hi everbody, Inglewood Jack here. We have some news and some gigs lined up, so I thought I'd get on and do some shameless self-promotion.

    First up, we've registered

    http://www.inglewoodjack.ca

as our website, but haven't got it hosted or added any content yet; the band's e-mail address is "inglewoodj@gmail.com". Live IJ performances can be downloaded here.

Second, we've revised our line-up a bit. Jason Scott, our saxophone player, is booked up quite a bit with other commitments, so won't be playing with us until he gets free. In his place, we've added Dennis Sarlis on guitar. Dennis has studied under Wayne Eagles, and has a great background in jazz (like Lenny Breau) along with a strong desire to play "new funk". We're glad to have him on board.

For reference, the full line-up of IJ is:

    • Lance Anderchuk on keyboards
    • Pat Cooney (aka thatpatguy) on bass
    • Trevor Curtis on drums
    • D-Mass on turntables
    • Brad McFarlane (aka bradm) on guitar
    • Dennis Sarlis on guitar

    Now onto the gigs.

First up, on Wednesday, January 25, 2006, IJ will be playing at Babylon in Ottawa as part of the "EVOLUTION" night, which will feature performances by Alanna and Maya, Inglewood Jack, Rita Carter, Danejahras (Toronto) (loop Pedal, guitar and turntable performance), Flip Kuma and Dante (Detroit, Michigan). There will also be poetry by Ritalin, Elequent, John Akpata, Garmamie. IJ will be doing about a half-hour set.

Next up, on Friday, February 24, 2006, IJ will be playing at Mavericks in Ottawa, opening up for Vanderpark and Throwback. (To hear some live Vanderpark, go here; to hear some live Throwback, go here.)

Finally, on Friday, March 10, 2006, IJ will be playing at Mavericks in Ottawa, opening up for What The Thunder Said (this will be there Ottawa CD release party, I believe) and Lure. (To hear some live WTTS, visit their website, or go here.)

As we get closer to each date, the individual gigs will be hyped and roll-called. We hope people can make it out; we're really hyped to get into a more regular gig schedule, and the new line-up opens up different possibilities for our sound.

If you have questions or comments about Inglewood Jack, post 'em here, or Private Topic or e-mail me.
