Was anyone here at the Christian McBride show on Monday night?
Let me say first that I only showed up that night because Charlie Hunter was there. He put on an AMAZING show, with a couple of very talented (and YOUNG!) musicians. What a talented, talented man.
But then... THEN. Then the CMB took the stage after some good spinning by DJ Logic. I'm going to admit right here and now that somehow, beyond explanation, I had never heard of the Christian McBride Band.
Have you ever gone to a show, not knowing what to expect only to be COMPLETELY BLOWN AWAY? When they launched into their first song, "Technicolor Nightmare", I suddenly realized what I was in for - some incredible musicians, and incredible music. When McBride did his lead-in solo into "Sonic Tonic", I suddenly realized that my musical life was going to be completely different, now that I knew about another unbelievable, immensely talented musician. When the band joined him on it, the groove was inescapable and I couldn't help smiling. It's just so fucking GOOD!
Needless to say, I enjoyed the hell out of the rest of the show. If you've never heard of them, you owe it to yourself as a fan of good music to pick up "Live at Tonic". You will NOT be disappointed in the least.
So who else was there? What did you think?

this is correct - I was talking to Rob (Gusevs) one night after their mini-tour and he said they didn't jam
Does anyone know of DTB fan sites? At the time of the shows, I thought it would be interesting to tune in to the fan's boards and see if there were any comments about the opening acts!
Thanks as always for the mp3's dave - you haven't perchance emailed Kevin yet have you?

Holy shit, nice guitar!! Playing's pretty good too - if only I could see him moving (I just see a static image and hear the playing).
Today I discovered Jake Shimabukuro -

what about the garfield halloween special? That one scared the shit out of me as a kid
And hey tin, you gotta change your sig to truly rid yourself of the phish!

great job man, it wasn't until now, at around 58, that my dad caught his first muskie. that's quite an accomplishment for a young fisherman - good job!
-
There was no opener - they played for about 2 hours straight. It was weird though, as the show started at 7, and ended around 9. Maybe he's getting too old to stay up late? hehe!
It was good though - the place I saw him was the same place I saw Bill Frisell play... for Frisell they had chairs, for Sco they had nothin' (it's a night club/concert venue... in other words, a night club that can hold about 1000 people)
-
Man oh man, Scofield was AMAZING... holy shit, talk about some intense guitar playing - that's the first time I've ever heard him play slide, too! What a band he had, too - they were so funky you could smell it.
I can't wait to see Wooten and his brothers (Reggie and Futureman) play tomorrow night!
-
you forgot to mention "The E-Mail Song"!!
-
you can try to save face as much as you want, but I know your dirty little secrets... there's somebody drinkin' wine alright!
-
hey, changed it again huh? I was just about to make a post about the fact that August 19 was a Friday!
-
bastard, even changed kevinbreit.com... I can't be the only one who saw "October 19"!
Can't wait for tonight's show - I've got some friends coming from way out of town, and they're really psyched!
-
wow, awesome! You've really outdone yourself this time... mp3's from *the future* That's SERIOUS dedication right there, folks.

he was in TO on april 21, 22, 23 at Hugh's Room (completely sold out shows... the place was so packed!). Apparently it had been five years since he had been in TO, so who knows when he'll be back! If you want, I can put some videos on a DVD for ya, since you've been so kind with the SE shows... speaking of which, you still haven't said if you talked to kevin yet or not!

This man is unbelievable.
You will be stunned, shocked, and blown away. Quite simply, he's one of the greatest players on the planet... I can never get enough of this clip, and thought maybe a few of you might appreciate it.
And if you like it, look for videos of him playing fingerstyle - even more impressive.
Enjoy!

I want to hear some solo troiano stuff - did he ever jam with the sisters?
And by the way - vic wooten is playing at the Opera House on Sunday the 16th.... I don't know which show I'm looking forward to more - that, or scofield!
-
man, yep... that was a good show alright... at least, the first half was!! I really liked how he bookended domenic with the slide guitar/echo/loop thing - Man, it's such a good tune.
And in case you guys somehow hadn't heard, John Scofield is playing at the Phoenix Concert Theatre on Oct 14. His latest album is all ray charles songs - http://johnscofield.com/music.html

I remember there being a really good place on bank st., somewhere around fourth ave./st., that had a ton of organic stuff... but I can't remember the name of it, as that was a year and a half ago... maybe that helps, but probably not, hehe!
-
that was definitely one hell of a fuckin' solo on Two Miles... I love it when he cuts loose like that! I'm sorry I missed the wacky antics, but look forward to hearing the show!

Whoops, look what I went and did http://www.jambands.ca/sanctuary/showtopic.php?fid/12/tid/225096/pid/266740/post/266740/#266740
What happened for the second set?? What the hell did I miss??

can'o'phish - sounds great! I'm definitely planning to be there this monday, as I'm moving to a new place on Rusholme Rd just off college - I'll no longer be a streetcar and 20 min walk away from the orbit, but rather just a short walk... so hopefully I'll be able to see both sets for once!
If you'd rather wait, though, I'm cool with that - because I can't guarantee exactly *when* I'll be able to torrent them. I asked bell to change my internet/phone over on saturday when I move, but who knows if they'll do it right away. It could take a week or two...
Bouche - yeah, you need a tracker. I'm assuming I could post them on http://bt.etree.org without any trouble - though it may be necessary for Kevin to write them and give permission. And I'll have to rely on community members to seed - the best way for me to do it is to seed until two or three people have the file, then jump off and start the next one. I hate it when leechers jump on, get the file, and hop off without seeding

if you guys need someone to host stuff, I could *easily* torrent lossless live shows... my torrent ratios are usually upwards of 6-10:1 for stuff I get off of etree/phishook, so no doubt I could see some good stuff, either on those sites or on here... I think my total upload is 80K, which is reasonable enough.
Only problem is, I'm moving on Saturday - but after that, and after my internet is hooked up, I can volunteer my bandwidth for some good SE/FA action!
-
wow, so there has - awesome!! thanks!! I had been keeping an eye on the torrents section - never even thought to look left!
I can't *wait* to hear the most recent show! Did you ever end up posting the show that had his new tune... I forget the name of it, but he closed the first set with it a couple weeks ago, and it was named after someone he had dedicated it to...
-
just wanted to chime in and say last night was AMAZING - some unbelievable (and INTENSE) playing from Kevin. I wish I didn't have to work during weekdays, as I have yet to stay for an entire show!!
I have to know, though, when can we download some of these shows? I always try to get the mp3's off the website when they get posted, but I'm dying for a full show!! How come these shows don't get posted to etree?
And what was that one tune - it sounded like Come Together, Machine Gun, and some other song all mixed together?? Is that a regular SE medley?

dude, THANK YOU for this post.
I didn't know about this show at all, but found this post yesterday afternoon while I was looking for the recording of Monday's Sisters Euclid show. Been a fan of these guys since Ways Not To Lose, so this was an amazing treat. I hope the recording surfaces soon so that I can hear it again... and again... and again...
