UK legends The Strawbs will perform at Gingers Tavern, with guest Jenn Grant.

TICKETS STILL AVAILABLE BUT GOING FAST.

The Strawbs have enjoyed major success on both sides of the Atlantic. In the early 1970s, as well as the hit albums, their hit singles "Part of the Union" and "Lay Down" topped the charts. From the mid-1970s they spent more time in the States and Canada where their albums charted for five years as they toured with Santana, Peter Frampton, The Eagles, Joe Walsh, Blue Oyster Cult, King Crimson, and Frank Zappa. The Strawbs also headlined major Canadian venues, such as Maple Leaf Gardens and The Montreal Forum. Rick Wakeman played with the Strawbs for two years before he achieved world-wide success with Yes, and as a solo artist, and the much loved Sandy Denny made an album with the Strawbs before she joined Fairport Convention

Tickets are available now at Select Sounds (Bedford), Sam the Record Man (Halifax), CD Heaven (Dartmouth) and Gingers Tavern on Barrington Street, as well as online here at www.giganticentertainment.ca

Tickets are $16.00 (including taxes) in advance, and $20.00 at the door.

The Most Serene Republic to Help Launch 2005 Halifax Pop Explosion

Toronto buzz band to headline official Garrison Brewing HPX Launch Party

Garrison Brewing and the Halifax Pop Explosion are pleased to present the 2005 Pop Explosion pre-party featuring the Most Serene Republic, Hamilton’s The Inflation Kills and locals the Burdocks.

The Most Serene Republic are six friends, mostly hailing from Milton Ontario. They have left school to focus on making music and sharing it with the world. TMSR sound like indie-rock androids.

The influence they bring ranges from everything that is beautiful today and everything that was clever of yesterday. Their sound is an intoxicating reminder that if you stand in one place, the shadows can overtake you. A reminder of what's good about everything that is right now.

Alternative Press - “Not many albums make you smile so much your face hurts.†[Oct 2005, p.156]

    http://www.arts-crafts.ca/themostserenerepublic/index2.html

Burdocks sound complex. What makes them so special is an ability to overlay this musical athleticism with powerful pop melodies and vocal structures. After almost eight years of outlasting waves of scensters in their hometown of Halifax, Burdocks have emerged as rock heroes in these parts. Unlike many veteran bands that get stale, regurgitating the same old sound over and over, Burdocks never stop progressing. Through four albums and a manic tour schedule, they have evolved one of the most unique approaches to indie rock in Canada today. Critics, college radio geeks, and rock fans from across the country now adore them.

The Inflation Kills. Nearly 6 years passed before the internal tension that fused satirical art-rockers kitchens & bathrooms eventually killed the band (close, but not literally). After 5 tours in 2-and-a-half years, 3 full-length albums and 2 onstage fistfights, and 1000 bottles of Labatt 50, the band expired. Phil Williams soon became anxious concerning who would play a half-written album with him ñ and drive his ass across Canada. Matt Fleming of Hoosier Poet was the first solid answer. Adrian Murchison, was intrigued by the prospects of a “straight-up-rock-bandâ€. Nick Daleo, the drummer responsible for the aforementioned decibel crushing, happily joined the three in writing what came to be The Inflation Kills first dark melodic rock album.

The show takes place Sept 24th at Stage Nine Bar and Grill. Doors open at 9pm and cover is $8.00.
