  1. Thanks for posting Bouche! Great to hear this.

I went to see The Hip in the Day for Night days in Syracuse at a Theatre. This was my band, I was maybe 16-17. I asked for an autograph from Downie and the guys after the show. I had a crazy embroidered hippy jacket with gold leaves all over it. Downie said "wicked jacket man" and signed "Enthusiasm conquers all" Gord Downie. Back then my first few attempts at singing were not good, I remember someone saying once "you will never be a singer, ever" but I always came back to what he wrote. I never forgot it for some reason.

Years later my band did a show with them. He was looking at his setlist backstage and said "I can't show you, too embarrassed". He said "My setlist has the chord changes for my guitar parts ...I am just learning". I had a "smoke" with him and then I went side stage and watched The Hip as they killed it! I thought .. what a fuckin guy.

  2. I am in Quebec today and can not recall my moho log in, but for some reason remember a very old spades log in I once registered. Any way this is a note to anyone going to Bob Wiseman tonight at The MoHo in Peterborough: IT IS AN EARLY SHOW! Starting at 9pm rather than the usual 10:30sh start. Hope Bob freaks the moho out! Wish I could be there.

  3. Just popped in here, glad to see some discussion about this. The name The Spades has been used many times, there is a great picture of a 60's garage band on the net somewhere. We had to change our name to James McKenty and The Spades. I edited my post about this on our site, as I thought "Logo" was not the right wording for what we are trying to find. The challenge for us is the length of our name and having it in a design that is original. If I can figure out how to post a picture here I'll give you the look of the album cover minus band name. Booche, I like your idea.

We've used the card symbol for the spades suit lots.

  4. Excuse me if this has been posted but ... check out this Neil young footage. I have seen a lot of bootleg footage, but this stuff is right there, during the recording of Man needs a maid, Words, There's a world etc..

Where is this stuff coming from? Anyone else every seen it? Obviously someone was filming the sessions for Harvest.

  5. Dr. J here (on James' computer) recovering from a night of rock 'n roll madness at the Montreal House here in Peterborough. Bradm's previous analysis of the Late J. P. Helium Band was quiite accurate - straight ahead guitar driven rock with some interesting change-ups thrown in. Good stuff.

Great new song by The Spades called The Next Round. Talks about sitting in the same places you've sat for years and promising yourself to leave right after the next round.

To the folks headed to That Place today. Ask the boys to play The Sonics tune for you (I don't know the name). It's a shitload of of rock 'n roll fun! Have a good one, folks! Hope to see some of you tonight.

  6. The band had a lengthy talk on the way back from Ottawa. We were shocked at some peoples actions at that show. The band is humbled to have fans at all but we have the utmost respect for those that come out to have a general good time and listen to music. I guess there is not much else to say to that, like I said in the van "who were those guys? ... hmm didn't look like relatives of ours".
