  1. Lance treated eager musicians as honoured guests and welcomed you into his domain, his musical sanctuary that was the Whipping Post. Scurrying about, adjusting a light gel, back to the bar to dispense beverages, a dash up to his sound board perch to check a level, in a flash back to that pesky light gel that needs to be just so, back to the sound board for a quick blast of the fog machine, all to the manic jangle of his trademark spurs.

His knowledge of music was encyclopedic. Not just his first love of blues and rock'n'roll, but jazz of all sorts, world music, weird 20th century noise-scapes. He loved it all. He loved his scene, he loved the music but he really loved a performance. Other than setting the bar on fire, one was free to do whatever crossed one's mind on stage, the wilder the better. There were some crazy times and sounds in Ottawa in the '90s and no better could be found than at the Post. Lance was the ultimate compère and ring master.

I don't think Ottawa will see his like again. Lance was a true original.

  2. StoneMtn, you rock. Sorry about taking so long to reply. I just got back a few days ago and there ain't no internet where we've been (well, not on computer anyway), so I'm only now checking my PM's etc. Your review is awesome and maybe just a tad generous. I forgot we did Stepping Razor that night (although, I've already forgotton most of that night, thanks to you) and, to be fair, only a couple of people got totally nude during Birhtday Suit. And never the people you want to see jumping around sweaty and naked.(If Flower is who I think it is, then this comment is directed towards you!) DJ Darr-C rocked and he played all the dates up to Morinville/Edmonton with us. I wasn't sure the whole style adjustment would be well received, but other than Brandon and the Peg (bloody Manitoba), most seem to really like it. Mt Currie is well worn and world weary (just like home) but the peeps were tearing the place apart. Quite a crowd and relly very fuctup. And C-Towns, press kit and blog are coming soon to a theatre near you, but, these things take time. You know how it is...hippies. Thanks again StoneMtn.

  3. Happy 30th Birthday, you handsome lunk! Most of the band is back from our Western tour, so expect a group b-day visit any day now. Then we will fest, with no rest, to reach that crest! I gotcha a totally hot cropped t-shirt from Fort Vermillion for your collection...

  4. Thanks Mtn, the visits here are rare and we can hold carstairs responsible for the introduction to the board. Damn you carstairs! I couldn't resist responding to spuge and Suzi Greenberg references.(end of thread hi-jack). I would asterix Helter Skelter by Los Beatles.
