  1. last night's show was, to quote Jeff Spicoli:

    "Awesome! Totally Awesome!!"

it was held in a small Jazz bar (aptly called Jazz Cafe) located in Camden Town; luckily I bought my ticket the second I heard about it 'cause it ended up selling out.

The crowd was a diverse bunch, consisting of older hip and conservative Jazz heads, guitar freaks (everyone was trying to get a good look at the variety of pedals), long hair folk, a few posh couples knowing where it's "at", and one dude I spotted in his late 30's with a Phish logo t-shirt.

Anyhow, I got there early to get drunk and up front; luckily I was positioned right in front of John. The majority of the show showcased the new album Uberjam, which is absolutely incredible! Fortunately I caught Scofield last summer at GOTVibes, so I knew what was in store. The performance was top notch and extremely energetic, completely dumbfounding the entire crowd (I don't think they were expecting what they got). At the end of each song the crowd would just roar with it's approval (I felt like I was partaking in an audience from the Who's Live at Leeds album).

Scofield was very chatty and funny. He shared with us that he's done acid only twice ("and anything more, you should watch out!"); he also told us that the drummer smokes dope everyday, so he got us chanting the words "po po" at certain points in the tune.

If Scofield's playing near you sometime soon, do it to it! His new band's the shit, and knows how to keep things flowing! Also, you can tell Scofield's LOVING this new groove!

    peace out

on Monday I'm off to Russia (specifically north east) for 6 months to do some humanitarian work. I'll try and pop in once in a while and lay down the ruskie headee scene for ya.

    have a good show

    yr pal al

  2. I just synched up Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon with the Beatles Yellow Submarine movie, and I'm fucking speechless! It's fucking crazy how it works; at some points the synchronicity coincidences are even better than the Wizard of Oz's! The majority of it though is Eye Candy, and it's damn sweet!

Honestly I'm too exhausted from the exhilaration to get into detail on how it works, but here's a link that explains the set up (it will seem complicated, but it does work, 10-fold).

    synchronicity link

if you do attempt this, keep in mind that this works when you listen to the whole album twice; ignore the instructions where it says it doesn't (it worked for me, and I was bloody sober!!!!).

also, try the Echoes with 2001, that's my favorite!

  3. there's an incredible book with several short chapters that's ideal for reading when you got itchy red eyes. It's called Einstein's Dreams and it gives short synopsis' on various perceptions of time (ie what would life be like if it began when one's old and then ends when one becomes a baby). it's one of my favorite books of all time!

as for Vonnegut, try J Garcia's favorite Sirens of Titan (in '79-80 Garcia and other friends from SNL wanted to make it into a movie, something to think about).

oh yeah, also The Helping Friendly Book by Icculus is an ultra headee read (tuh) rolleyes.gif" border="0

  4. yeah, well I'll tell you something:

you ain't saving jack shit when you go to Blackbuster.

Sure they have a zillion copies of the new releases, but their service is beyond shite, their knowledge and selection of films is depressing, in some cases they set up purposely next to local video stores just to steal their clients(ie Queen Video in Tdot), and their late fees cost and arm and a leg.

SUPPORT YOUR HOMEGROWN LOCAL VIDEO STORES (ie Queen Video or Suspect in Tdot).

    thnx

  5. the restaurant was called the Footstool and was located at St John's Smith Square (close to the Tate Gallery and Westminister Parliament).

For the last month or so I've been chilling with my brother (who lives in Surrey with his wife and 3 little boys), so I've been spending some quality time with my nephews 'cause I hardly get to see them.

As for entertainment, London is surely the beacon of goods. A few weeks a go I caught a once in a lifetime jazz show with John Zorn, Marc Ribot, Trevor Dunn (bassist from Mr Bungle) and a few other key players. That night was stupendous!

Next week Scofield's playing at the jazz Cafe so I'm awfully stoked!

I'm here for one more week, then I'm off to Russia to do some humanitarian work shocked.gif" border="0 , so I'll keep an eye out for your recomendations Kev-o (thanx)

  7. 1) the new MMW- Uninvisible- pretty impresive stuff!

    2) the Smiths- Best of Vol 1 -currently I'm in England so it suits the mood and atmosphere of English urban decay

    3) Neil Young/Crazy Horse- Zuma- this album's the shit! "Barstool Blues" is highly addictive.

    4) Bob Dylan -Self Portrait- good stuff

    5) Phish 10/31/94 set 1- killer versions of Simple, Divided Sky, Julius and REBA!! Oh yeah, and War Pigs!

  8. today I went to visit the Garcia art exhibit here in London (uk). The strangest thing was the location: inside a posh restaraunt close to Parliament that caters to british politicians. Talk about me sticking out like a sore thumb. Some patrons were giving me dirty looks, probably because I was wearing jeans. shocked.gif" border="0shocked.gif" border="0 Give me a break, it's not like I was hitting the pipe while swirling around table to table trying to sell gooballs. rolleyes.gif" border="0

Anyway, there were aprox. 30 limited edition prints of his artwork scatered all over the restaraunt. I must say many of them had a profound effect on my psyche (one was entitled "Northern Lights" that produced this familiar feeling of being sucked into a parallel universe where Dark Star's the soundtrack). Another painting almost brought me to tears ( called "Reluctanct Dragon" that couldn't blow fire, yet the volcanoes behind him would erupt for him).

All the paintings were for sale too; the cheapest going for £600 (roughly $1200 cdn) and the most was £5000 (the Garcia/Grissman cover for Not for Kids Only).

overall good times (next week Scofield's in town, YAHOOOO grin.gif" border="0grin.gif" border="0grin.gif" border="0

  9. as of now, it's not officialy confirmed, but last night the police found a stiff in his apartment (I wouldn't be surprised if it was him).

Although I'm not a big fan of the band, there's one album I hold close to my heart and that's their '92 ep "Sap". To those who know will agree that it's an incredibly beautiful chill-out acoustic album. Check it out.

  10. reeee,

I'm feelin the Waves of the heat from the sun out here in Cyprus where it's really hot hot hot!

there's an outdoor section in the hotel I'm stayin at that has these flowers that reek like hash burning in the parking lot during summer tour! AHH

    wish you were here

  11. ha ha ha grin.gif" border="0

Asher, you're not referring to METROPOLITAN PREPARATORY ACADEMY are you? Fuck, they still throw exams on the weekend eh? Does the Brendan Knox still flame on?

Must say I miss those HIGHschool dayz; I think I spent more time behind the school debating Dead Phish jams rather in class.

Stay in school kids and just say YES wink.gif" border="0
