  1. wednesday nights at the bayou are always blues open stage, but if you guys get a lot of people out, then i can talk to bruce about a slight change of pace. shakedown is a solid band, and we get a lot of good musicians in for it, but blues is the norm.

bruce is awesome at any instrument i've heard him play(which is a lot), and it's a really nice atmosphere for open stage. it would be great if we could get a bigger crowd out for it.....

  2. weezy- first of all, it would mean that they wouldn't have to enforce it. second, just because some redneck out in saskatchewan thinks mary jane is a dangerous drug, doesn't mean that it should continue to be illegal. just think, if they decriminalize it out out west, then a lot more is going to be grown, and it sure as hell will come down to us, a lot more than is now. then what happens? provincial border checks? municipal border checks?

(realize this is worst case senario)

i beleive that this is a decion that needs to be made by the federal gov't, and should be canada wide, not just in random places. i think this is a little bigger issue than the smoking by-law's. anyway, it would be in the gov't best interest to control the whole thing any way. more revenue for them, if they grow it. and if not, then another thing for them to tax. now isn't that a peachy thought.....

  3. i'm not saying that maryjane shouldn' be legalized, i just beleive that it should be done by the federal gov't, and for the whole country. they were the ones who made illegal in the first place. if i could get a hefty fine in one city, and not in another, then the fine means nothing in the end. giving the municipalities control sets a precendent for other things. i just think it's a bad idea.

  4. the problem right now is that the government is looking at the poosibility of allowing municipalities to make their own laws concerning use and possesion. which means that it could be illegal in toronto, but legal in ottawa. the control would be given to city councils, and those who make by-laws. this would completely undermine the point of our federal legal system. things are supposed to be the same nation wide. they simply need to do it all across the board. everywhere. and the decision needs to be made by the federal gov't. by giving the authority to the cities, all they will do is pass the buck, and then it'll go through MORE red tape and beaurocracies. it's time for them to take some responsability for decision making.

anyway, for those of you who are getting ready for the day you can walk down wellington street with a doobie, it's still gonna be awhile. this will take years. long years....

  5. why is it ok for the usa to "weapons of mass destruction", but not for anyone else? god only knows what they're brewing in there. that's the thing with georgie bush, a bunch of fucking double standards. how can he say that the point i to "rid the world of tyranny" and bring democracy? i don't really like saddam or yasser arafat very much, but no one but the people living there have the right to decide who's going to run their country. things going the way they are, we'll all be living in an american police state soon....

  6. i HATE the feel of a juiced ciggarette on my lips.....or a soggy joint..... makes me want to puke.....

fave ice cream when i was a kid was chocolate. it's still chocolate, but now with some peanut butter on top...... mmmm..... and hot fudge......... with chocolate chips.......... yummy......... damn! now i'll end up eating ice cream for breakfast...........

  7. if stuff is found in the car, it's the owner who gets busted, no matter who bag it was in. if only one person has stuff on his person, they let the rest of you go, after a search.

same thing happened to us last year at the maine/NB crossing. unknown to me and my friend, the two guys we were travelling with had been caught trying to bring a dirty bong from amsterdam into the US. (not the smartest plan) when we pulled up to the booth, they took one look at their passports, and told us to pull over and get out of the car. before even searching the car, they put us all in separate rooms, which is about when i started to have a panic attack. they searched the car, and us, and thankfully they found nothing. they sent us on our way after about 45 min of hell and panic.

but remember, never take anything! it's just not worth it. and if it's your car, it's your ass.

  8. "If you've never tried a drug - you DO NOT have any worthwhile opinion on the subject."

don't you think that might be going a bit to far? even if maddak's never taken drugs, being around people who are high, and a lot the time, most people at jamband shows are high on something, you are provided with a certain insight into the behaviour of high people, what drugs can do to you, and the experiences you can have when you're high. besides, everyone is entitled to an opinion.

"When your high enough, the music becomes the drug - I think that's what most of us are after when we use drugs at shows."

why not try a little experiment, go to a show sober (or relitivly sober) and just let the music BE the drug, because if you're high, then the drugs are the drugs, and the music is just secondary. and since it's supposed to be about the music, why not try just listening to it without all of the other distractions?

(i'm really not arguing against drugs, just suggesting another option)

(i'm not arguing against drugs, or drugs at jamband shows, you can do wahtever you want, just an opinion)

  9. i'd have to agree with maddak on this one. i do take drug, but would rather not be tripping out during a show. people say that it enhances your musical experience, but how can that be if you're not fully aware of what is going on? when i see a good band, the energy in the room is enough of a high for me.

not that i have a problem with drugs, or people using them at shows, i just think you can absorb more of the experience if it's just you listening, not the drugs.
