  1. As the last trip did, these logs are making me want to plan a bike trip of my own. You are making me home sick and there are so many parts of Newfoundland that I still haven't seen. You are just hammering that home again for me. Enjoy the rest of your trip.

    Paul

  2. I hear a lot of complaints on open lines and in the news about sick day usage in the government, but we get 9.someodd hours of sick leave per month.

Couldn't one gather that this implies that we can take 9.someodd hours off a month sick. So the fact that the city used only 10 days on average per year on sick leave....thats under the alotted sick leave given.

I don't come close to using 9.someodd sick leave hours a month and I understand that its meant for times when you are really sick....but it seems as though its the nature of the Union beast beit for good or for bad.

  3. Yeah, its been approved and starting Monday the will be going flat out with vaccinations. I know that in Newfoundland they are starting monday...Just was talking to my mother and over the course of 13 days they are giving the vaccination by the street you live on. You need to determine when you streets designated time is to get vaccinated and then proceed to the "shot" area. Sounds pretty intense.

  4. I am torn on what to do about the H1N1 vacination.

There are so many different opinions for and against. I was leaninig towards not getting it as I dont get the flu shots so I decided I wouldnt get the H1N1 shot

But after hearing a few horror stories from my Sister, who works in a hospital, about some cases in Winnipeg affecting and really messing up some adults between the ages of 30 and 40 who were healthy before it struck them, I am thinking of getting the shot. Any opinions?

  5. I was there for a Day and really enjoyed the "City of Gaudi". He is responsible for a lot of the touristy spots there which lure people because of his naturalistic Architectural principles. I think a must do is his Sagrada Familia cathedral, it is really something to see and learn about. There is a lot of good shops in the gothic district. I sadly only spent a day and wish I had more time there...but I think I will get back there sometime soon.

    Enjoy your trip

  6. When I was at Timmies I order my coffee and casually noticed the Creamer lady wiping up some mess around the pots as the cashier called back my "Large two cream".

The "Creamer" then proceeded to get a cup and push the large cream button on the machine....all is good so far.

Then I noticed that instead of grabbing the cup around the outside, she placed her three fingers, freshly soiled with the dirty rag and who knows what else, directly in the cup and tranferred my cup to get filled. Maybe I am becoming a germaphobe...but I just couldnt force myself to drink that coffee.

Out of site out of mind though because I am sure much, much worse happens when food is being prepared in Resturants...but If I dont see it, I dont think about it.

  7. And I think there was a lot of rum-running done out of there during Prohibition.

There is still a little bit of "rum-running" being done there. Well there was in the late 90's. I played a soccer tournament in Lawn on the Burin Peninsula, which just a little east of St Pierre, in high school and there was some moonshine and other strong stuff comin across on the boats and served in some fancy white Styrofoam cups.

  8. Alot of my favorite Hip Hop artists are old school records, but I really think K-OS offers a lot of fresh tracks and is holdin his own.

I can't get enough of this live rendition of Valhalla...Bouche, I Dear you not to enjoy this one...The passion he has for his music seaps through

    GangStarr - Full Clip

On the Top of my List of Hip Hop groups...and DJ Premier still spins today...he has been through Ottawa a bunch of times.

One of my Favorites... Jurassic 5, can't get enough of Charli2Na and I still kick myself for not seeing them when they came through Ottawa a couple years ago.

Also, a lot of Hip Hop , well good hip hop anyways, is just poetry over beats. I came across Shihan on DefJam hosted by Mos Def, another Great Hip hop artists. Shihan is a spoken word poet and is pretty deep with his words

  9. I had the Ribs and Pulled pork combo from Texas Outlaws yesterday. I found my ribs to be very meatless and was semi dissapointed. My friend had the half rack from Texas outlaws and his ribs looked really good...so to me it seemed as though the pre made combos get the rejects or ends of the ribs. Maybe it was bad luck, but I would go with just the ribs next time.

I also bought a bottle of bbq sauce as I like to stock up for the Summer and winter with some quality sauce. I am hunting for the Florida Gator spot today.

  10. As a helmet less Biker, Inline skater and Skier...I am jumping the non helmet wearing ship and picking one up. Like everyone is saying...it only takes one tiny spill to change your life forever. Its just not worth it. Besides, for sking anyways, some of the helmets are really warm and you could then go without a winter hat. I find even with good winter hats, my ears get cold so this could be my solution.

Freak By Night: You going to try and get any more runs this year? I am hoping to get out this weekend.

  11. I have recently been wrapped up with Blues Harmonica and have been trying to learn how to play and Its much harder then I first thought. I have come accross a few youtube guys that really have made it a little easier to undertake.

    http://www.youtube.com/user/JamCamp06

    http://www.youtube.com/user/KudzuRunner

They both have some Really, good lessons for begginners all the way up to advanced players. Plus they offer a lot of insight and history behind the instrument and music.

Thought I would share. Anyone else out there tyring to learn this instrument or have any other resources for me?

  12. Mine we neatly stuffed in my Mailbox when I got home today :) I can't wait for next Tuesday. Neil is going to be sooooo good... but I am also pumped to see Impossible Germany live. I have been uncontrollably convulsing to that song, and many other Wilco songs, in my Cube for the past month. People around must think I am going crazy.

  13. Ottawa got hit last night and this morning. Woke up to a nice snow wrapped vehicle which I had to reluctantly scrape. Can't wait for Spring! We didnt get all that much....called for 15cm, looks more like 10...but I find it funny how a little bit of snow scare people silly. Countless number of Schools shut down and accidents all around the city. I understand the need for our kids safety...but come on...didnt we just have a record amount of snow last year. How in the world did we survive. I guess we have short memories on how to deal with the white stuff.
