  1. great thread! I'm trying to learn more about recording as well. My band has been recording our practices for a while now, playing around with mic placements. We originally just used two condenser mics in the room and we able to come up with a decent sound

But this method gave little control after the fact.. it was all mic placement.

We've now go four mics to use but we're still figuring out where to place them.

Our gear isn't that great though. We're actually using two laptops both set up with a Line 6 toneport UX2. So two tracks on each machine. Ideally I'd like to get something like the Firepod which will make my life a lot easier. Do those of you that have the firepod recommend it?

  3. You may have to intonate your bass. A setup is always good but you could probably do that yourself with the right allen keys and screwdriver.

I don't think there are any cons to changing strings.

If the gauge is the same there might be very little to setup.

I say go for it. Flats are great.

Thanks YT! I've never done any setups myself so i'm a little timid to try although I know it's something that I really should learn how to do.

Is there anything I should be wary of?

  4. I have a fender jazz bass with round wounds and I'd like to get a lower tone. I'm thinking of putting on some flat wounds but I've never used them personally (I've played a friends p-bass with flat wounds and liked it).

Has anyone on here done this? Pros or cons to doing it? I assume my Jazz would need to get setup for the flat wounds?
