  1. this genetically altered pigeon can reach speeds of up to 600 mph and is capable of flying at 30,000 ft. the scientists working on this project are confident these changes will prove vital to the birds survival, due to the unusual amount of natural enemies this species is prone to having...

  2. yeah, it certainly wouldn't be christmas if boney m didn't get a spin... [Wink] had to suffer thru that one quite a bit as a child...

but seriously, louis armstrong's got this tune "zat you santa claus" and it's cool and duke ellington's take the holiday train album is quite good...

i'm really not a fan of regular christmas songs...maybe it's the unbearable cornyness?? c'mon now, i can't be the only one that wants to throw something when i hear "frosty the snowman" or take my own life when "chestnuts roasting on an open fire" comes on, can i??!

    but i love christmas.

    really. [Wink]

  3. did anybody ACTUALLY rea d that whole page of meals???! likek c'mon. [Razz][Wink]

    ;-)

  4. oh geez... first ever was probably this small concert at the congress center... carol baker, i believe, along with a couple other semi famous canadian country performers... i really don't remember well; i was probably 7 and just there for the mcdonalds afterwards...

best show ever is too hard to name- mmw @ the NAC comes to mind but it was so prestigious in a way that the surreality of the whole experience overshadowed it a bit and sorta distracted me... bob dylan was damn fine this past summer, but i can't truely give it the top rating...

i find the best shows are always the ones where you know the folks playing and there's room to move... most of them take place in my basement, actually... or in seedy little ottawa clubs

VERY disapointed i never experienced live dead. it's a damn good thing for cover bands ;-) ...but other than that i try not to remember the lost opportunities. i have a hard enough time remembering the decent ones...

  5. yeah, top of the world was a great place then. the dudes that owned it were super guys- remember when it was just all those shirts form nepal??!- and the transformation is unfortunate but it's nice to see nice people succeed... and i guess you can't just sell emboidered t shirts if you want to make the big $$ in ottawa... there's a lesson in here somewhere, i know it.... ;-)

but yeah, patches: there's a spot on rideau thats a bit of a hidden gem for that but damned if i can remember the name... it IS there, tho, you just gotta poke around... gimme a couple days for my memory to activate, it's in there somewhere, it's just been a long time since last time i was there or even in ottawa. hopefully i'll get back to you soon. sorry, i know that's absolutly no help to you right now ;-) good luck

  6. a top five is asking the impossible of me, just to warn you... i'll try to retrict my excitement to a minimum (no promises) :

    beatles (always #1 for me)

    grateful dead

    dylan

    talking heads

    phish

greyboy (practically wore out my freestylin' record... hours upon hours of continual bliss)

    jj cale

    marley...

all killer, all timeless, all influenced me very early in my music "appreciating" years, and all for very obvious reasons other people have covered.

    the band

    the rheos

the hip (don't deny the beauty of all albums day for night and after; leave the early years at the high school dance)

    lenny breau

    new deal

    young

    mitchell...

canada is great. we grow the purest. (sorry gowan didn't make the cut; never saw the live show ;-) )

i also can't leave out radiohead (what can i say?? i love sound) or paul simon... tom waits, st germain, reed and the vu... (abort mission, information overload, no end in sight...)

but one more list can not go unmentioned- the locals that made me a show junkie peddleing their highly addictive wares... the ones that made me sneak into bars when i was 17 just to hear that fuckin sound, man... infectious.

FREEPHONIC (i can't explain it; you had to see it)

BURT NEILSON BAND (good party times)

FREEWAY BAND (sign of a great band: they function better together than apart. should have stayed together)

RAGAMUFFIN (the hardest working rastafarians in show business)

HAMMERHEADS (can't go wrong when you follow the funk)

NERO (fond memories of deserted nights @ the post and sundays in my pyjamas @ babylon)

FERRISWHEELER (a total recent development for me, but that is SERIOUS sax-ual assult; they deserve a spot)

good thing for all of you i'm no where near my music collection; this is potentially endless for me but i'll save you all the trouble

    peace

    and always follow your ears
