Project Manager, Royal Bank Systems and Technology.
Full time parent in the evenings....

My choice is Story of the Ghost - the funky stuff is great (Mama Dance particularly) and the slower tunes are all solid..

Round Room for me.....Mike's voice is perfect for this....

Ya know, I have to agree with 'FBN' - this is not my favourite Phish studio album. It seems to be come up a little short, overall the album needs a little lift. Funny as your favorite bands evolve your never find yourself saying "I really like their new album, but I wish there were more slow songs!!".
Still it's not bad, its not like they sound like Creed or anything.
Definitely the hilites are the songs with Mike...3 songs (as I recall) have a lot of Mike and they really stand out to me as the best parts of the album. The song Round Room really grows on you and it's all Mike.

First show - Iron Maiden, Kingston Memorial Centre, 1986 I think. The "Number of the Beast" tour no less!!
Best show - Stevie Ray Vaughan, Copps Colisium, Hellminton..1987 as I recall....he opened for Robert Plant but SRV was truly the show.

Thanks for the link!!
Only one listen and it is great.....nice intro by Page....'switch' about half way through song where it really picks up....great jam at the end...
It appears, thankfully, they have resisted the urge to go 'orchestral', a la Metallica or GnR (November Rain - ouch) - haha.

I have seen him in clinic before in Toronto and it is well worth the effort. Seeing his drumset is alone is worth the price of admission...I am not even sure it will fit on the Opera House stage!!
He does a number of 'pieces' as opposed to just going apeshit on the kit. It is truly incredibile that there is only one person playing when you hear everything going on.
Jaimoe, keep me posted on your plans. I want to try and swing this one.

Ever find yourself out in the world and suddenly realize there is a really good song in the backround that you would never have expected?
I was a at typical downtown Toronto restaraunt today (Milestones, near John and Queen) for lunch with a group from work...suddenly I realized "Alive Again" by Trey was playing in the backround.
Weird...who would have thought.
Anyone else got any examples?

A couple just came to mind..
Devo - Satisfaction (Stones) - it's simply a classic
Johnny Cash - Rusty Cage (Soundgarden) - not sure how it came about, but it sounds great

Best cover was a great thread. How about worst cover...you know, when a band that has no business doing so, butchers a song so bad you can't shake the feeling you've been violated.
Here's a few I can think of...
1. American Pie (Don Mclean) - Madonna - nothing needs to be added
2. Have I Told You Lately (Van Morrison) - Rod Stewart - my wedding song ruined forever
3. You've Got to Hide Your Love Away (Beatles) - Eddie Vedder - Eddie sounds like an animal that has just been run over by an 18 wheeler and is on the vurge of death on the side of the road

You know, I am pretty sure TicketBastard mails to 'target markets' for their direct mail....based on your past ticket purchases.
Do tell.....what was it that got you on the Creed mailing campaign.....
Did you secretly go to that Poison show? Maybe the sparsely attending Bush gig?

I would have to add "moving forward" to the list of lamest buzzwords.
Or how about this buzz-phrase, "let's take this offline" - uughh!!!

Pete played at my wedding in Kingston....of course that was almost 9 years ago. He had a little trio, they were amazing.
However, they played at the reception before and during supper - not at the church. Not to say he won't play a church gig....to my knowledge he is not a satan worshipper.

I agree close to TTC is crucial....a lot depends on where your daily travels will take you.
If you are going/working downtown, the closer you are to downtown the better. Even by subway/streetcar getting downtown is a daily grind.
As mentioned, High Park, Bloor West are nice but far from downtown. Same goes for the Beach.

Ticketbastard send me a postcard in the mail yesterday offering Phil Lesh tickets for a discounted price...eesh. Don't want to discourage acts like this from coming north.

Jaimoe.
Are you sure you won't be wearing your Tea Party shirt? Guess it's in the wash.

For me it's mushrooms.....they grow in shit. What more do you need to know.

I'm predicting the following:
1. Canada 3 - US 1
2. Lindros scores winning goal early in the 3rd
3. Brodeur scores the 3rd goal, open netter
4. Lindros sustains a career ending concussion in the celebration pile up after the game
5. Brett Hull attempts to claim gold medal saying he is Canadian afterall, "C'mon, my dad is the Golden Jet, of course I am Canadian"
6. Roenick and Tkachuk tie for first, as voted by Canadians, as the biggest arshole on the planet. Please note Brett Hull was not on the ballot for this poll due to him claiming Canadian status at the end of the game
7. Grudgingly Bobby Clark admits Gretzky did a better job than he did in Nogano, but adds "At least Lindros got hurt. I hate his parents."
Go Canada!!!

Thanks, but no road trips for me....married, 2 year old kid, pregnant wife, etc...
I will be going to the Toronto show one way or the other. More than once I have managed good seats through Tickmetmaster about a week or two before the actual show. They seem release small blocks of tickets.
At worst I will pad the pockets of some unholy scalper.
-
Where is the show?
-
Telephone in one hand, high speed internet in the other - but the ticketmaster gods were not looking down on me.
By the time I got through there was basically nothing for Toronto. I hate ticketmaster...anyone have any luck?
-
Are these tickets for Ottawa? Toronto? both?
Any details on where the seats are?

Back in grade 5 or 6 I got a set of goalie gloves. I was the envy of my road hockey posse.
When we played a game outside my house later Christmas Day I swear to God I was Ken Dryden.
