  1. 1.

    Mexican Americans

    Like Education

So they go to night School

    And study Spanish

    And get a "B"

    2. (less funny)

Will you still see me tomrrow?

No, I got too much to do.

    Well a question ain't really a question

When you know the answer to.

And the sky is dark and still now

On the hill where the angels sing

Ain't it funny how an old broken bottle

Looks just like a diamond ring

    3) more funny (I saw the chorus to this earlier. Prine rocks.)

He ain't got laid in a month of Sundays

Caught him once and he was sniffin' my undies

He ain't too sharp but he gets things done

Drinks his beer like it's oxy-gen

He's my baby, don't say maybe, never gonna let him go.

  2. ....but today I got my Master's thesis back and all three examiners circled that magic word--"PASS"

There were some stressful times, as the experiments I did were repeated with different results, and my supervisor tore into me about this. However, it's all behind me now, and I'll be drunk 'till Monday. Yipeeeeeeeee!

  3. Quote: "I think he wants her to be safe," you don't me" so some how the powers that be will look favorably upon her if she doesn't know him"

Thank you. This is the impression that I always get, which really adds to the nostalgic sadness of the song. "We had our great times, but now, during your trial, it's better if I never exisited to you"

Great posts! Everyone might have their own interpretation of this song, and the beauty is that no one is wrong.

  4. The simple, yet powerful baseline is instantly recognizable. Yes, it's my favorite. The "jubilee" apparently comes from the myth that every 49 years there is a "jubile," where one can cleanse the soul and be given absolution to start over. On a lighter note, "shake it, sugaree" calls up wonderful images of beautiful girls who may have baggage, and trouble, but take time to forget it all and dance.

  5. Hey y'all. I was just reminiscing over an "Other Ones" Alpine Valley show I saw in 1998. They played a killer "Sugaree" and I cried like a baby. Is anyone else familiar with this song, and if so, do you like it as much as I do? Also, I wondered if anyone else has an idea of what some of the lyrics mean. From what I can gather, Sugaree's numbers coming up, and the songwriter is urging her not to mention him, either to his benefit, or to hers, or for both of them.

  6. There's a higher water level on the shore when the anchor is in the boat!!!!!

Think of the anchor's force on the bottom of the boat, which results in pushing the boat down, and bringing the water level up.

Now think of the force on the bottom of the lake with the anchor in it. This force cannot push the lake bottom down, so the anchor can only displace it's volume.

Someone else here had this answer, which is correct

  7. Well good god-damn!

I just came out of a committee meeting where I had to stand in front of 4 profs. in genetics and describe my work as a Master's student in Biology here at McGill. At issue--whether or not I'll be able to finish up my degree by the end of the summer. Well, the meeting went great, and I have very little left to do to finish. Plus, my own supervisor is off for a month now. So, off I go as well!

Yeeee-haw! It goes to show, you don't have to be an intelligent, sober individual to get by in molecular genetics. All it takes is a little luck and some people skill.

Anyway, not to bore anyone, but here's my advice:

Go outside! It's gorgeous! Find a patio, grab a beer and sit! God bless you all.

  8. I think that by the written standards, most college age men and women would fit the classification of "drunk." Most people I know don't stop after three because they're getting "tipsy." That's the whole point! That's when you order up a double, light yet another cigarette, and let the ride begin. Maybe it's just my social peer group, but no one I know has less than 5 drinks on a night out, and probably average 8. So if you drink twice a week, that's 16! (Jesus, I just did the math for my own past week---52! Can anyone top this?)

  9. Thanks for the info. After an hour or so of frantic searching, it looks like this model is sort of the bottom rung of the es (electric-spanish) line that gibson put out, but by virtue of being 48 years old and in good shape, it could probably fetch 4 figures. Wow!

I really like this guitar, and if I don't give it back, I'll keep it and play it often.

  10. Hello,

I recently received a gift of an old guitar from a girl who is moving and didn't want to take it. She apologized because the case was broken, and the strap was coming apart. The guitar looked very dusty, and was horribly out of tune, but upon closer examination I discovered that it is a 1956 es-125 (archtop) with all original parts, and after a liberal coat of guitar polish and some new strings, this beauty looks and sounds like new. The fretboard and frets are in perfect shape, and with the exception of a few minor dings, this guitar looks great.

So...the dilemma! If it's worth a lot of money, I feel a bit guilty keeping it. Can anyone give me a ball-park figure as to the value of this guitar?

  11. Here's the gut reaction that people get after reading this:

"$*@*ing inconsiderate Japanese policies!" But, this is a general, ignorant, racist statement, and people should get the facts first.

Japan's reaction to the hostages may reflect a fundamental difference in culture, which, not knowing anything about Japanese culture, I shouldn't put down. While my view is: "Christ, cut those people some slack!", I'd like to hear a reasonable explanation for this seemingly strict, incompassionate behaviour. Any takers?

  12. Now I know why many men have stopped and wept,

halfway between the loves they leave and seek

And wondered if travel takes them anywhere.

Horizons keep the soft line of your cheek,

The windy sky's a locket for your hair.
