  1. hey, deranger! it's nice to hear some nay-saying around here.

that's definitely one interesting direction you're going with that explanation.

i've heard the line 'they have the most potential of any of the bands in the scene' a lot in the past while about those guys.

as for me, if i'm thinking 'these guys have a lot of potential' when i'm at a show then i'm not letting loose, i'm thinking 'these guys have a lot of potential'...then there's the inevitable '...but...'

i'm going to give them another chance. i have had a good time seeing those guys fairly recently and about a year ago. they're REALLY improved in that time.

i think it'll be ideal when they start living up to their potential.

  2. Paisley - almost as trippy and quirky as the Mandelbrot set that pours out of him

Waving in the Wind - he sure does accomodate

Gentlemonkey - he's gentle alright...but i get the creeping suspicion that he's very firm more often than not

cowboy - are really there any cattle in Toronto?

the Sloth - much quicker with the extra toes.

Guigsy - for a dude that goes to shows rather than plays gigs, he's a natural.

Anita Bonghit - i know you wish you were wittier. intent is worth more to me than action is most of the time.

Chewie - cause you're gracious enough to let Jaydawg to steal the avatar that rightfully belongs to you

Big Dick Cheney - the real brains of the operation

CatPhish - me-YOW! smiles all around.

Burtman - a real guitar hero

kung - cause that zero guy was even more stubborn than he was and i like the wishy washy hippy esthetic he has always tried to resist.

bokonon - long live the republic! makes me procrastinate getting out the map...

j-roc - only cause he JUST has more posts than me...and that he packs heat, biatch.

walter sobchak - cause his avatars always make him look slim

tungsten gruvsten - whatever a sten is, it makes me try to figure out how it's related to lovin...

  3. supportive? somebody's got to be now and again, you wimp.

'ooh waa waaa waaaaa don't be angry at oneanother...'

    load

    of

    horseshit.

thanks for getting popcorn stuck in my head. FACK!!!!

like you'll be getting that cd back ever now.

I hate you too Freekerbythespeaker...but you do have some funny avatars and some 'mild' logic - you couldn't burn an a$$hole if your life depended on it.

'i fu©king hate that Silky Juice bastard'...what's that all about? step up or did your balls leave on that raccoon?

    (oh my!)

  4. nice thread! i like how this is shaping up already.

i like the attention. i think though that sometimes our attention isn't necessarily spent all too wisely.

like me - i just said i was going to get groceries and i was about to check my email that one last time before hitting the 24 hour grocery store...

...it'll be open in a minute...

definitely some me time tonight. I think that's what Zero was doing...getting attention paid to him...he's just so busy doing other things (like getting people to give him attention) that he's too busy to do it himself.

I think LMP could help that guy out...

  5. i hate the fact that i often get misunderstood due to people reading into my meaning without any idea of what i'm getting at - just expecting things to be worse than they ever are and just assuming that i'm referring to something about them or what they do or somebody they know...

    it happens an awful lot.

it may even be happening now...

  6. short but sweet??

i just wanted to spell everything out so as to not confuse anybody that needs all the facts before continuing.

if you lose interest due to length, you probably wouldn't win any prize at a battle of the bands.

gotta weed out the dimwits somehow!!

  7. Well here I was in the Patch (Peterborough for all those that aren't down with the lingo) looking for a way to have some fun happen in January and February and beyond...realizing the falling numbers at live events, I was confused and staggering from the stress in not thinking of anything that would work.

Then I talked to my buddy Rob. We decided to start working on a Battle of the Bands. We figured a way to make it work for us, the artists, and the venue.

here's how it works - the act pays a registration fee of $25 and buys a mandatory block of 10 discounted tickets. the band sells the tickets at face and makes $5 from the deal - they can then buy as many tickets as they can sell for $5 each...giving an incentive to pack the room with friends, family, and anybody else.

this helps them because they get to make some money and get a higher score in the competition (depending on numbers of course), the band gets a better placement in the night's lineup, the bar gets more people in seats on a sunday night, and we make a little bit of money each week to be able to afford promoting other events in Peterborough to ensure a sustained run.

I figure this is a great idea and will help the community through increased events, community involvement (media and business sponsors), and will help us keep things interesting around here.

    Somebody's gotta do it.

    SO!!

here's the deal. since we're paying bands to enter (essentially) and we're trying to make this work, I'm opening this to amateur and professionals alike. Keep in mind that Phish entered a battle of the bands to record lawn boy...not saying that we're looking to do that again (well i would but i doubt many people in the world can come close to that album) but I'd like to get prizes to people that deserve it, and I've met a lot of great artists that completely deserve a shot at recording.

Bands will be allowed to sell their merch at the show.

Bands will also be allowed to sell the tickets at whatever price they see fit. after all they have to buy the tickets.

I'd like to get local acts as much as I can but We have no problems with acts coming in from Ottawa, Kingston, Oshawa, Toronto, Lindsay, Guelph, Dover, Windsor, or Montreal.

just remember we're not putting on a show...they are.

    we're just organizing the event.

If you're a band that needs a high guarantee (or a guarantee at all for that matter) then talk to us after we've put on a couple of these series.

If you would like more exposure in a city where people need to recognize a band's name then throw down some contact info.

  8. I hope to someday have kids, but I agree that overpopulation is an issue.

the problem is in heavily populated areas...canada's sparse...but only one...MAYBE 2...keep numbers in Canada at a standstill. what's gonna happen when we're old and need people to take over for US like we're coming into with the baby boom generation...
