Dr. Jelly will present a follow up benefit concert for the Justin Schwieg Foundation, featuring Last Limit Freedom, SquidPistol, and The Method at the Scherzo Pub, 207 Wellington St. on Friday, May 13th. Doors open at 9pm. Tickets at the door are $7.

The spirit and intensity of slain local football hero Justin Schwieg will live on in the form of a foundation to support amateur football in Kingston. "Justin's love for the game of football was demonstrated by his dedication to the game as a coach, player, and fan. The Justin Schwieg Foundation will make it possible for more young athletes to learn the values of sportsmanship, integrity, and intensity that Justin embodied," said Jason Schwieg, Justin's brother.

Justin Schwieg was murdered March 25th in an unprovoked attack while on a night out with his friends. "The support for Justin's family and friends that came from the Kingston football community was astounding. Justin would have given years and years of his legendary intensity and passion to the game if he had lived. The Justin Schwieg Foundation will ensure that even though Justin's days as a player and coach are over, his spirit will continue to support the game he loved," said Nick Corneil, a teammate and roommate of Justin's.

Proceeds from the events will be donated directly to the Foundation to provide it with seed funding. Steve Sottile of Kingston-based band Dr. Jelly expressed his desire for participation from the wider community. "We're asking local organizations, businesses, and individuals to contribute to the Justin Schwieg Foundation by pledging to match 10, 25, 50, or 100 percent of the funds raised by local musicians through these concerts," said Sottile.

Hailing from Southern New Brunswick, Grand Theft Bus has garnered a reputation as one of Canada’s most exciting new bands. Although known for their sprawling exploratory live performances, the group’s first studio effort Birth of Confusion was extremely well received by both critics and fans alike. Their second release, Flies in the No Fly, is currently available on the Maple Music label. Having played over 400 shows in the past two years, they have shared the stage with legendary acts such as the Rheostatics and the New Deal, performed to packed houses in every major Canadian City, and become a mainstay on the summer festival circuit.

Dr. Jelly blends funk, rock, jazz and reggae into a unique, danceable groove. Based in Kingston, Dr. Jelly has built a great community of friends and fans with diverse musical tastes and the common urge to have a good time exploring them. Their shows combine cover tunes, innovative arrangements, mash ups of new and old classics, and an injection of fresh original material. Dr. Jelly has fun on stage and strives to involve the audience in a truly interactive live music experience.
