The FROOTFLY with THE BATTLESHIP, ETHEL

Thursday June 16

In the spring of 2001, there was an auspicious musical happening in Montreal... The birth of The Frootfly. The Frootfly, with its band members Dan-Ger (drums), Ginseng (bass), Chef (keys) and Franko (guitars), offered the public their first encounter with "in-your-face-instrumental-melting-pot-dirt-flavoured-music." Since their emergence from larva, The Frootfly have performed more than 150 shows in various bars and concert venues in Montreal, and have survived one national and two provincial tours.

Formed from the ashes of the Tally Hum Orchestra - The Battleship, Ethel also started performing in 2001. The band’s sound draws heavily from the early experiments of improv-psych-rock founding fathers: Neu!, Can and Faust - peppered with modern day influences such as Spaceman3, old-school-Sianspheric and Cul-de-Sac. The Battleship, Ethel are the type of band you come across playing in the back room of your favourite local grimy rock club.
