payce-ley
have nothing against the Super Bowl, but somebody screwed up Motown building full of studio docs bulldozed a DJ who learned of the situation went in and rescued the studio notes of Marvin Gaye's What's Goin On album... the day to day records of who played, who contributed, who engineered, etc during this period... most of everything else got bulldozed it wasn't the original Motown building, was the one they used from 1968-1972... still pretty interesting years for Motown records though1968-1972During this era there was a new catalyst for change in the Motown sound. Producer Norman Whitfield's [color:purple]psychedelic soul revolution ushered in the arrival of guitarist Dennis Coffey and Wah Wah Watson. Motown's recording schedule increased bringing in other new players. The death of Benny Benjamin, along with James Jefferson's advancing alcoholism, pushed talents like Uriel Jones and Bob Babbitt to the front. Still at Motowns core was the classic band led by Earl Van Dyke.
