shainhouse
Hamrahlid ChoirTuesday June 14 • 8pm • $10The Downtown Cultural Centre (28 Rebecca St. at Hughson, Hamilton) An Icelandic treasure, Hamrahlid is one of the world’s most respected youth choirs. Thorgerdur Inglofsdottir, founder and conductor of this incredible choir, leads this 70-voice a cappella chorus in a concert of their favourite works from Iceland's rich choral tradition. In the past, this has included music by Haukur Tómasson, Jón Nordal and Karólina Eiriksdóttir and Icelandic folksongs such as "Visur Vatnsenda-Rosu", "Sofdu, unga astin min" and "Modir min i kvi, kvi." (Trivia: The choir's most famous former member is Björk.) The choir will also be performing at St. Paul's Basilica in Toronto this Sunday; tickets for that show are $13-$20, so this is not only a rare opportunity but also a bargain. Tickets for the DCC show are available in person at ARTS Hamilton, Jackson Square (905.529.9485). This is to be the premiere concert at The Downtown Cultural Centre. The DCC theatre is on the southwest corner of Rebecca and Hughson — the three-story brick building that used to belong to the Salvation Army. http://stillepost.ca/boards/index.php?topic=6198.
