  1. Hello Toronto Jam Fans!

On Thursday June 9th it's time to get down and shake that booty with a zen'd-out night of Bluegrass and Grateful Dead at the Smiling Buddha on College St just west of Dovercourt. The show starts at 9:00 PM, and cover is only $6, because hey, even Buddha's gotta eat!

The Unseen Strangers have been holding down the Canadian Jam-Grass scene for over 4 years now, first on the east coast and now right here in Toronto. These bluegrass pranksters always bring the twangy high lonesome party to every show, throwing down original tunes, bluegrass classics and a few off-the-wall surprises in an explosion of string band fury. Check out some videos here. And live shows are available on Archive.org

Closing out the night is everyone's favourite live Grateful Dead DJ, Gratefully Deadicated Sound System, because as we all know, the Dead sounds best over a bumpin' PA system while shakin' booty with all your friends.

Kicking the whole thing off is Kingston's own Free Whiskey String Band. This acoustic trio brings a full repertoire of original and traditional bluegrassy tunes with tight vocal harmonies and blazing instrumentatals that keep you grinning from ear to ear, just like Buddha.

  2. In the mood for some Badass Bluegrass and Roots/Folk music this friday? The Unseen Strangers (Toronto-based Jam-grass pranksters) are teaming up with friends from near and far for a night of acoustic mayem.

Joining us for the night will be our good friends from Halifax, The Moonshine Ramblers. Tom Terrell (on tour with the Ramblers) kicks off the night followed by Free Whiskey String Band from Kingston/Toronto, after that comes the badass alt-country spectacle that is The Moonshine Ramblers with The Unseen Strangers taking the stage at around midnight.

  3. Thanks Jay-Dawg!

Sorry about the Jimmy Jazz show, we promise to make it up to you and I'll definitely post on here when we have a confirmed date in Guelph. I love guelph, lived there for 2 years and saw many good shows at Jimmy Jazz, Vinyl and Van Gogh's.

We had a great time at that Ottawa show, actually! The crowd was small in numbers, but big on spirit, and seemed to be really into the music. We just love playing bluegrass weather it's to 10 people or 2000, we always want to have fun and put on a good show. We're actually back in Ottawa on February 25th opening for The Avenues at Irene's.

As for Hamilton and Guelph, well, we're working on it all the time...

Thanks for the kind words everyone!

  4. Howdy folks,

Ottawa has smiled kindly upon us this year and we are going to try return the favour one last time before the calender flips. We have prepared a fractal spectrum of strange bluegrass hues to unleash at the Rainbow Bistro on December 15th.

(NOTE: we will NOT be at the Bistro on the 16th, as it says in the board calender, so don't stay at home waiting for tomorrow)

    3 sets! Only $5!

  6. Hi there Ottawa Heads,

The Unseen Strangers and The Dusty Drifters are playing this Saturday, September 25 at The Clock Tower Brew Pub on Bank St. The show starts around 9:00 and we'll keep twangin' away until close.

If you like bluegrass and string band music, you're going to love this show. The Unseen Strangers perform original music with qrirky lyrics, enticing melodies and lots of improvisation. The band has played Evolve for 3 years running, as well as Sunseeker's Ball, and recently moved to Toronto to record their second album, Time Travel with Juno-nominated producer Andrew Collins (Foggy Hogtown Boys, Creaking Tree String Quartet). Hear some songs from that album at our myspace or at our website

Opening the show will be The Dusty Drifters, whom I'm sure many of you know, and we're really excited to get to share a stage with these guys. For those who haven't seen them, check out their myspace for some great live recordings.
