  1. We got back pretty early, so I thought I'd be the one to start this thread: What did everyone think off CTMF?

    My thoughts:

    1) The new venue is awesome. As good or better than Frontier Town in my humble opinion.

    2) I was VERY impressed with BNB, Jimmy Swift, That1Guy, NoOrchestra, and Cosmic Boogie Band in that order.

    3) From an organizational standpoint, I thought the festival went EXTREMELY well considering the amount of rain we got, especially on Saturday. However, in the future, I would like to see one band setting up and doing sound check on the beach stage, while another band played on the mainstage and vice versa. I think that arrangement would work a lot better, rather than having bands 'competing' for attention at such a small event. There was also a bit of time between bands for set-up, which could be reduced or elimintated by using this staggered system (even if that meant having less bands). Just a thought though...

All in all, I had a great weekend. It was a tonne of fun. Looking forward to attending the Labour Day CTMF!

  2. Hello!

I've just posted a complete list of our May dates here (hope that link worked!)

I'm really looking forward to hearing the bands at The Casbah on Saturday. I've never seen/heard any of them. Hopefully some peeps can make it out. If not, I hope to see some of you later in May!

To answer BradM's Q: no connection between The New Shady Groove and Shady Groove. ;)

  3. Hey everyone,

Just thought I'd post our May dates. Hope to see some of you soon!

    Hipstar Productions presents...

The New Shady Groove - Spring/Summer '04 (May dates)

May 15 @ The Casbah in Hamilton, ON

(supporting The Still Kings & Fieldguide with DJ DeTOX doing his thang in the lounge).

May 22 @ Come Together Music Festival in Waterford, ON

( tons of great bands, two stages, tickets still available at www.cometogethermusicfest.ca)

May 27 @ the Velvet Elvis in Oshawa, ON

May 29 @ Holy Joe's in Toronto, ON

    (a 2x-bill with Cavern )

Watch for lots more Groove dates coming soon. It looks like things will be getting very busy beginning in June. As always, a very special thanks from TNSG goes to Craig at Hipstar Productions in Vancouver for putting this tour together. Craig can be found at: www.hipstarproductions.com.

Watch out for a new shady website! It should be up by next Monday afternoon at the URL www.shadymusic.ca. We saw it for the first time yesterday and it looks great. You'll find a comprehensive list of our dates and some mp3s there.

Thanks once again for your time.

    Best wishes,

    Matt (AKA 'shadycharacter')

    (The New Shady Groove)

  4. That festival would be sick. It's cool that Dave and his crew give so many talented and underexposed acts an opportunity to play for thousands of people, especially when you consider that he could probably sell more tickets if Ben Harper or Jack Johnson opened every show.

I like DMB, but I remember seeing the Flecktones open for them a couple of 4/20s ago, and that seemed a little (a lot) backwards to me.
