  1. But there are a ton of powers that the governing party can exercise regardless of the will of Parliament (ie. not subject to any vote) in a minority or majority situation, ie. appointing members to the panel that determines "Correctional Service procedures" as in this case.

And the last time I checked, the only party in government that ever reached out to the other parties in a minority situation is the Liberal Party, ie. Pearson in the mid 60's, Trudeau '72-'74, and then Martin in 2005 until the NDP turned their backs for 10 extra seats.

The Conservatives have only used the bulldozer approach in minority governments, ie. everything a confidence vote, you're with us or it's an election.

  2. I agree with this guy:

NDP leader needs to focus on good of country

The hypocrisy of Jack Layton is only exceeded by his arrogance.

Here is the guy who since 2006 has voted non confidence every time the Tories held a vote that required the confidence of the House.

As recently as last week, he was declaring that he had no intention of voting for anything the government brought forward.

This is until his other left wing buddy Michael Ignatieff took his thunder away by declaring he also was going to vote non confidence.

This will have only one result. Without the Bloc backing the government it is defeated, so both these guys have backed themselves into a corner with their daring, and are now trying to pass the blame to the Conservatives and make them the victim of opposition arrogance.

Jack Layton and the NDP with 16% of the vote seem think that they can push any elected government into the NDP position like they did the Liberals and Paul Martin regardless of the cost to Canadian taxpayers.

When he talks about Stephen Harper being more flexible in his agenda, he means accepting the NDP position. Well, it looks like Harper is prepared to call the bluff of the left-wing parties and let the voter decide who forced an election.

If this comes to pass we will likely end up with another Conservative government and it could be a majority. The NDP will be the big losers as some of those lefties who want more government handouts will go back to the Liberals and once more split the vote but not in Layton's favor.

Layton is never going to be prime minister and is probably assured that he and his wife keep their well paying jobs so why doesn't he cut out the B.S. and work for the good of the country and not his big ego or he may find a lot of his NDP colleagues out of work.

  3. but can someone provide an example of an elected federal government that promised something quite different from it opponents and then acted on that promise?

Sure, the Conservative promise to cut the GST.

Birdy, there's talk of high speed rail being in the Liberal platform, not exactly sure between where, but that could be unique and draw some votes from both sides of the spectrum.

I'm really enjoying watching the NDP scramble, one day they're bragging about voting to defeat Harper a mllion times and the next NDP MPs are blabbing to the press that they want a deal with the Conservatives. Nice communication strategy idiots.

  4. Ok...so here's the thing...

Now that the grocery store charges a nickel for plastic bags they've gotten quite a bit larger. I found that they fit my garbage pail perfectly...Some stores (Herb and Spice) offer the bags that are now bio-degradable.

So here's the thing....all those arseholes (me included) that use the cloth bags, probably use thick ass non biodegradable garbage bags for their trash.

Now...what's better?...using cloth shopping bags and using non bio garbage bags...or just using the "new" plastic bags at the grocery store for shopping AND trash.

Who's saving the planet now, Bitches.

Or can I by carbon offsets doing this so I can continue throwing cig butts in phishtaper's car?

Is the solution to buy biodegradeable kitchen garbage bags? everybody wins?

  5. Huxy, do you remember the night of your housewarming Mike and I discovered a Jamaican restaurant right by your place? North-west corner of Bank and Walkley in a plaza. You should try it. It was authentic, tasty and just a tad faster than CF.

Oooh I remember well, I ate your leftovers for breakfast the next day! It was deelish!

Oh and you people go to a Jamaican restaurant expecting speedy service?? C'mon folks...
