  1. i've seen the "beach boys"... very sh!tty... mike love is a real dickhead

brian wilson... man, his band is soooo tight.... on his recent live album, checkout the instrumental track off of Pet Sounds (the definitive beach boys album... er, brian wilson album)... they are really freakin groovy ... brainwillson may be old and cracked... but most geniuses get old and often crack i guess... he's not great on stage, but at least he's up there givener... with a solid band to boot

  2. right on! thanks for all the kingston tips... gonna hit the hoagie house for sure...

Hey caroline! Ya, i've got a bunch of Neil Young shows on my computer waiting for you as well... It looks like i'll be in peterborough for AT LEAST one weekend in October since i'll have my parents car by then, so we can trade up then... an maybe catch a Spades show...

  3. The Elixir attracts some good shows, the sound is okay, but if it's really busy it's not the greatest venue for shows. For example, the place was just packed to capacity for a band called The Weakerthans and it was really hard to see the stage (if that's your kinda thing).... but the sound was decent and that's what really counts anyway... elixir gets some good bands (sometimes) and that at least makes me happy.... I agree about the Scherzo not postering!!! seems unusual for a venue not to promote their shows... I also heard there's some by-law against postering on telephone poles??? i need to confirm that though... But, seriously... it's intro week for a lot of students... WHY wouldn't the scherzo poster at least at the University?!?! who knows...

  4. man... the acoustics at the scherzo are awesome... good atmosphere too... i made the treck to kingston to see nero at the scherzo onece before... i can't wait for the up-coming show... hopefully there will be other people there! (given the lacking turnout for Blue Quarter tonight)

  5. soooo... i just came back from the Blue Quarter show in Kingston... hmmm... keep in mind, i'm literally the ONLY one who can say that!!! So i got there at the tail end of the first set, epecting to hear another good chunk of tunes, and i find the bar practically empty. Well, i guess blue quarter had a drive ahead of them or something, because they called it quits after the first set since there wasn't really anyone to play to. On the plus side i got a free cd from the band... which i'm listening to right now. Anyway, i hope the turn out for Nero is a lot better. I've seen blue quarter 3-4 times before and i can't believe no one was at this show... rrrrr.. such a solid band. anyway... that's the review of blue quarter in kingston... yay. ::

  6. Welcome aboard.

Are you from the Kingston area? Many on this board including Bouche, Booche, Davey Boy and myself ( to name a few ) are from K-Town. The Scherzo is my favourite place to see live music.

I'm living here for a year. I just moved from Peterborough. The Scherzo definitely is the coolest place to watch music - great sound to boot. I saw the Jimmy Swift Band and Weakerthans at Elixir, not as nice a venue though.

  7. No one is arguing trey's musical demons....but look at Neil in the 80's...he was doing some crazy sh!t. but now, Greendale was the best thing he's written in over TWO decades...

well... in the 80s neil's wierd albums were some what a result of him hating his record label. Look at the album LIFE: on the cover is a jail cell and on the wall of the jail cell are the number of albums he recorded for Greffen record scratched on the wall! Neil "drug albums" were more so in the 70s... Zuma was recorded during the cocaine days... and is better than almost any phish record! (in my opinion). anyway, my point is i don't think comparing neil young to trey is fair (sorry i'm a big neilhead). Greendale is solid though. I saw it live a couple times last year... trey could learn something from crazy horse.

Check out the new Guitar World issue... Trey gives a pretty long interview about the Phish breakup. There is not too much new stuff, but he does talk about when he was on/off drugs and stuff. Anyway, i think Trey fu©king up songs is Trey not practicing songs because he just isn't feelin' it. Who knows though... "too much of a good thing will kill you in the end" neil young

  8. yo...

this sunday (Sept 12) the spades play at 2:30 in Kingston as part of a Tragically Hip show. The Sadies are also playing and i believe go on after the Spades. Tickets are around 40 bucks. There are some other bands playing, but i can't remember exactly who right now.

    OTher key kingston dates

Sept 9, Blue Quarter, The Scherzo Pub

Sept 12, The Sadies , Elixir (yes... after a day of Spades/hip/Sadies they sadies play again that night! Greg Keelor from Blue Rodeo is supposed to be there as well... maybe we'll hear some Unintended songs)

Sept 16 (i think i have the date right... please post if it is wrong), Nero, The Scherzo Pub

Anyway, i'm between classes right now and am writing all of this off the top of my head... but i'm pretty sure the dates are right. Sunday should be a rockin day.

  9. yo

so... i signed up for this forum since i've been going to shows for a while and thought it'd be fun to post. I've been without internet for 3 years, so forgive me if i'm out of touch with online stuff. I actually got to meet some real nice people from this board down in Coventry, Vermont at Phish's last show. I went down with my buddy KevO (who's also on the board) and we were lucky to meet up with some buds of his from jambands. Anyway, hopefully now that i have internet i'll be able to post up shows now and then (mostly in the Kingston area). I'm a big fan of a Peterborough band called The Spades so lookout for posts about them - they're a solid live show for sure (i've seen them at least 30 times or so since last winter). anyway, just wanted to shout out to the forum.
