  1. Weezy,

yup I saw the Lost Tribes, they were kickin'!! Small world bro, the drummer for the band is going out with Karin, my buddy's old roommate (Jason). I'm stayin with him here in the city, just off the Drive.

My folks roll into town tonight...yikes! I'll definetly be ready for a little escape come Wednesday night...see ya there. [big Grin]

  2. Good to hear!! I am very new to the West Coast but from my initial observations it seems that we are indeed in need of some serious jams. I am starting to get worried.... Did anyone attend the "Under the Volcanoe" festival in North Van on Sunday? I was their all day and heard maybee 2 guitars. Their was an incredible Brazillian group complete with Capawera dancers on the main stage, seriously throwin it down. I went to find some friends to get them in to hear the goods and was shocked to see a couple of hundred folks dancin to a guy spinnin records. Suppose I shouldn't be to surprised, people hear dig electronica big time. This is gonna be tough for a fella whose been on the East Coast for years!

  3. Hey treyter, I'm with ya all the way on "Theme", but i'm stickin to my guns on BOAF. The instrumentals are good fer sure, but I think its the lyrics that kill that tune for me (super cheesy!), no matter what they do with the jam. I also once heard this tune on one of those satellite radio stations at a resteraunt I once worked at. Nuff said.

  4. The weather was nearly identical the past two summers at Evolve. The days blistered (30s), and the nights were damn cold. Due to the valley that the event was held at it was a wet dewy cold, which sucks. Last year there was a fire ban on, therefore we couldn't do much about it. The first year fire's were cool, so the cold was not an issue. Have fun, wish I could be there, cold or not!

  5. Hey yall, long time no post. I just recently drove from Nova Scotia to B.C. While passing through Lake Louise I found myself looking for a possible co-pilot to share the rest of the trip. I picked up the first guy I saw. Before he jumpped in I realized that I had broken my cardinal rule of picking up hikers. I hadn't looked to see if he at least had a bag of some kind. I usually like to see a backpack rather than a dingy garbage bag. (bags usually contain things like toothpaste, deodarant etc). This dude had neither, but what he defenitly caried was one helluva nasty stink! It was not that musty exotic hippy smell that I rather enjoy. No, no, it was that I've been hikin since Regina, haven't slept, haven't washed, brushed, etc stank. As soon as he was in I could taste it. "Where you goin" I asked...Kamloops. Wikid, 5 hours+ with this foul rotten specimin. The combo of his odour, the length of our journey, and the prison tattoos that covered his forearms very nearly made me barf. I was naseous and more than a little bit nervous. We made it to Kamloops, he got out, and I lit up the incense.

    Happy days!

Hey Howler, no not in CT. Our gigs we're held on and under the swingset in my backyard in "Unionville Rock City" (north of Toronto). It was not long after these legendary performances that my mom busted my Kiss Alive album over her knee! shocked.gif" border="0 Seriously heavy memory for me! That little episode probably explains alot grin.gif" border="0

  7. Someone mentioned acting out movie scenes...on a sorta similar passtime me and my buds put on a couple of "Kiss Concerts" in my backyard. Seriously, full makeup, and some kind neighbourhood dad made us fake guitars (wish I still had my Gene Simmons bass!)

  8. Hey Yall, as the sayin goes never judge a book by its cover...however this site should definetly help sell it for you if you're still hummin and hain over this one. YOU MUST ATTEND THIS FESTIVAL!!!! Spend some quality time with the Gallery section of the site for starters. As brutal as this sounds I probably won't make er' as I will be attempting to begin my next twisted chapter on the West Coast...so get there for me and shake it up! grin.gif" border="0

  9. I got 14/16...I guess I'm winnin so far? Seems like my time spent workin at a cafe on Oxford St. in Sydney Australia paid off. Thats where they hold the biggest Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Parade in the world. I suppose all those shifts I spent dodging Vicki Vegas' wandering hands have served me well!

  10. Did anyone see the 96 DMB show at Barrymore's? That was a fun time...saw him a year later at the Gorge, not fun. The show made me almost as nauseated as the puking frat boys and girls at the show. I'm thinkin this frosty treat will have a similar effect. Yuckola!

  11. Glad those who made it had such an incredible experience. As I mentioned in a previous associated post, their are currently some very serious and reliable rumblings about Spearhead possibly "Evolving" at the end of August. Hope it happens, and hope even more to see you there! grin.gif" border="0

  12. Good morning h,

there are so many great bad movies that its quite difficult to narrow it down. However I must say that for sentimental reasons one of my all time fav's has got to be "Kiss Meets the Phantom". Do you know it? It's made in the mid to late 70's, takes place in an old Coney Island style amusement park. Kiss is sorta the house band for the park. This mad scientist, who I think is actually played by Vincent Price creates robot type replicas of each of the Kiss guys. And of course they are evil twins!! Each with special evil powers! Its so bad, but it came out when I was a huge Kiss fan. On a side note I can still see my mom busting my Kiss Alive album over her knee like it was yesterday! Rock and Roll all Night kids! grin.gif" border="0

  13. Alright, hold the fort! Speaking of kids shows and animated acid trips, who of my long lost Ontario brothers and sisters remembers "The Secret Railroad". Nobody here on the Coast has heard of it at all. It was on TV Ontario, early mornings, before school. There was a boy with a conducters hat and a striped scarf, an old "Jerry-esque" looking man with a cat sitting on his head, and a spacy hippy type chick with pre-Lisa Simpson star hair. They used their locomotive to travel on a floating set of tracks. Lots of time travel and weird creatures. Please, I know this show existed, help me out!! confused.gif" border="0

  14. I was listening to a C.B.C. show the other day and the call-in question was "What is the best movie you've seen in the past year"? This is indeed a rather cliche question, however it really beggs to be pondered from time to time.

I had forgotten about the show as well as the question until after just now finishing viewing two fantastic films. First was "Sling Blade". Its the one written, produced, and starring Billy Bob Thornton. I had seen it a couple of times before, and have to say its one of the greats. It has a beautiful soundtrack provided by Daniel Lanois, as well as a fantastic performance by Dwight Yokam (believe it or not). The other one that I highly recommend is the Muhhamad Ali documentary "When we were Kings". It is exremly intense, also with killer soundtrack, James Brown, B.B. King, Spinners and other 70's funk/blues demons.

So, seen any good ones lately?

  15. Hey ScottieKing,

Great to hear there are some more phriendly teachers out there. I've got 6 more weeks at Acadia U till I have my B.Ed. Any ideas for Phish oriented lesson plans? A buddy of mine read and played Gamehenge for a group of grade 5's (they went nuts, loved it).

As for your dilemma, you might want to spook him out a bit, its gonna happen sooner or later. So I'd say the Mikes from Big Cypress, seriously freaky! I always like to play covers of tunes that people already know. I love to show how the boys can take a tune and play it way better than the original. Let's stick with Cypress, maybee After Midnight. Have fun. grin.gif" border="0

  16. Why thank you Schwa!!

Finally a topic that us non-Ontario based lurkin folk can sink their teeth into!! First time I heard Phish was the tune "Contact" while playing chess at Jimmy Dorey's place back in 92'. I thought it was ridiculous, absoloute crap...then I heard Y.E.M, Divided Sky, Bowie, and the rest of Junta!! For the next few years we were all pretty busy with that "other" band. In fact it was not until the summer of 96 and a roadtrip to Plattsburg for the Clifford Ball that I would witness the bliss of Phish. Of all of my tour adventures, Big Cypress definetly tops the list.

What really interests me is hearing from those fellow Canadian heads who have spent any substantial time doing the Phish Tour "thing". What are your impressions of the scene as a Canadian? How were you welcomed (or not)? Is this a purely American culture where Canadians and other non-U.S. folks can enter but never really belong??
