  1. The part that really got to me were TGW's comments about "everyone hating us". The media (American), and every non-Canadian player in the tournement. WOW!! Never heard of any Canadians being hated in a mass, even global context, pretty heavy! Hey h, I'm not sure of all of the details as far as the media goes, however I get the impression that they really want us to lose in a bad way, and have been making a huge deal about our efforts so far. I know that they jumpped all over the comment made by the Swedish coach who said that Mario Lemieux is skating "like an old tractor". Well, he was looking pretty slick last night. The boys are getting better with each game, Give'er!!

  2. Haven't been there in a few years, but the best places for live tunes were 1. The Barbary Coast, and 2. The Rose & Crown. And yeah, the Drake in Canmore is awesome fer sure. Make sure you find the Pump and Tap (aka the "Hump n' Slap") Pub in the basement of the Bear St. Mall. Its a great little spot, lots of cool locals, pool tables, and serious debauchery! Have a blast! grin.gif" border="0

  3. Hey there, I've been hesitant to respond to your post, cause well, I lived there one summer and,I sorta, kinda, well to be honest I had a pretty shitty experience. But in hindsight I was shacked up with a psycho ex-girlfriend (and her Mom), living in a shitty part of town, and working for the evil empire that is well you know who (just about everyone else there works for them as well).

However, as I reflect...O'Leary's Pub is a great place in the city, good open-Mike nights where I always heard some Dead, Dylan and other heady tunes played very well. St.John and the rest of N.B. is in fact a very heady place, good folks all over, St.Andrews is close to your destination, and very beautiful, good folks, whale watching, good hiking. Fundy National Park, also close to SJ is one of my favourite Parks. Oh yeah, Cherry Brook Zoo in SJ area has a really cool monkey...did I just say that? Whatever, its true!

And finally I would have to say that SJ has got some fantastic restaurants for a city of its size. Samosas, and "Whale Salad" at the city market are a must. "Incredible Edibles" next to O'Leary's is very fine.

So, sorry this took so long, I guess it wasn't such a horrible experience after all. Also the Irving Nature Park is a nice little wilderness escape that is very accessible, great seal watching! Peace. smile.gif" border="0

  4. Nice to meet ya (nice avitar)!! You are ophisially invited to Evolve 3 this August in Antigonish, Nova Scotia. Best party/festival on the East Coast. Yup, for those who havn't heard yet it has been confirmed, new location, but again on the last weekend of August. Who has seen the "Revolve" documentary so far? I finally saw it this past weekend and Greg Hemmings certainly did not dissapoint. As a matter of fact it had me drooling and hallucinating about sunnier days and the whole family getting together, can't wait, see ya there!

  5. Hey Zimmerman, I haven't heard any one say those two words (bottle tokes) in a while. Thanks man, I just saw my life flash before my eyes! B.T.'s are a bit of an Ontario phenomena, or so I've noticed on my travels. Folks are usually a little sketched upon witnessing that ritual for the first time...but they quickly learn! shocked.gif" border="0

  6. Does everyone know the "Fallout from the Philzone" disc? If not find it...immediatly! Sweet collection of rare nuggets hand picked by Phil. The "Hard to Handle" on disc two has got to be one of the most jumpin recordings ever. You can tell that their playin' for a small crowd, but are they ever diggin it, seriously pumped folks. No other tune/recording gets me smilin and groovin harder than this one! grin.gif" border="0

  7. Right on, well there are some seriously cool cats livin in Cowtown at the moment. I've shared many Dead shows with the boys, they love to get down! I'm sure their croakin to get to a show or two. I can send out an e-mail if yer interested. Peace.

  8. I can certainly feel your pain friend. However my woe extends far further than lack of Nero. Try living in Wolfville, N.S. home of Acadia U, an hour from Halifax on the side of Highway 101 (aka "death highway"). This is a road that is simply a bad place to be, especially this time of year, therefore trips to the city are rare. This is also an extremely lonely place for like-minded heady folk...oh how I miss the Nish! So chin up little buck. Spring is comming, and I'm sure Nero will be as well, happy days. cool.gif" border="0

  9. Let the good times roll...

Yo momma so stupid, she studied for a drug test!

Yo momma so stupid she stepped on a crack and broke her own back.

Yo momma so ugly they filmed, "Gorillas in the Mist," in her shower.

Yo momma so ugly even Rice Krispies won't talk to her!

Yo momma like a shot gun, two cocks and she blows!

Yo momma is like a racing car...chick burned four rubbers in one night.

  10. Well said Canned Beats. I was especially drawn to your reference to the role of educators. Interestinly enough I only minutes ago completed a seven page paper/rant about what schools "should be doing" for my philosphy of education class. As a young person entering this profession I continually struggle with ways to incorporate my life experiences within our subculture. I struggle for various reasons from the old "if I have to explain it you wouldn't understand" Deadhead curse, to worrying about bein perceived as a hippy/burnout/stoner/flake etc.

The thesis of my paper was that schools should be restructured in a way that they emulate the outside world as it "should" be, not as it currently is. Of course everyone has, or I hope they have a personal vision of that world. For myself and many of our tribe, this is a world characterized by individuality and cohesion, freedom, imagination, creativity, risk taking, and kindness. It's a funny thing, our subculture has alot to share with others in terms of education, but how do we do it? Even funnier, is that quite often we don't always want to share it. We want to be understood, but sometimes we don't. The more our culture spreads the more mainstream it becomes, the more commodified. Tough call, but I'll surely be reading some of Hunter's words and playin Dead tunes during my grade 7 english class. I suppose thats as good a place as any to start

  11. I recently received a CD in the mail from my bro who lives in Australia. The band is called Didjibyte, disc is Dreambones. It's an extremly hot blend of techno beats and didji's, hand drums, and throat singing. It's very cool, spacy and spooky, not jazzy, but definetly cool.

  12. "Antiganowhere, hemp capital of the world" (Hu Noo, "High"), and maybee the Head capital of Canada. It certainly has an a helluva history of smokin shows, kind folks, and strange days. I highly reccomend an after first frost, harvest season visit!

As far as Evolve moving, can't say for sure, but for what its worth Jimmy D is currently residing on B.C.'s beautiful Sunshine Coast, and loving it.

All hail the Dirty O, my favourite venue next to Deer Creek and the Gorge!

    Sorry h,

I gotta go with the monkey, Barrymores is legendary. I saw U2 there in the eighties, the Hip before "Up to Here" came out. Great venue, with great memories.

I'll see you at the Oak for pints before the show!

  14. So the boys played at a weddin in Boston (typical!), and some reasonably decent rumors are beginning to surface as to possible return dates.

Where will the first show be? What will they open with? I'm callin Vancouver, Sept/2002, with a "Wedge" opener. See ya there. rolleyes.gif" border="0
