  1. we only went for sunday...weren't originally even planning on going, but surprise tickets appeared.

caught the Band workshop at the island stage, and was suitably impressed. i think i could have left after that and been content.

then lunch, then the slip. as a lot of other folks, i was pretty underwhelmed. there was a weird delay outside of the tent that rendered a lot of rhythmically sophisticated grooves kind of washed out. much better inside the tent. meh.

the 4-5 island stage "gourds and guitars" was awesome. we caught the organic groove workshop in the drum tent next, then dinner (diana's!!) which we enjoyed listening to vieux farka toure, who was to my ears what tandoori naan was to my mouth.

ron sexsmith was solid as always, and ani was, well, ani. i was so glad to be there even if it was just for a day. problems aside, hillside is one of my favourite festivals.

  3. i watched this show, they were running hemp-o-line (basically just pure hempoil mixed with a ratio of lye to form a runable gasoline type product. anywys, they ran the hempoline through a rocket-truck, with a true to life jet engine in the bed of the truck, for 100's of miles before it quit. the hempoil cleaned years of sludge out of the engine and clogged the fuel filter, truck cut out. everyone badmouthed the hempoline until they realized that it de-greased their entire engine. new fuel filter and they burnt it up for another few hundred miles.

i think it was called cool fuel roadtrips or something.

that's it, tooly. the show featured a bunch of australians who did a trip around the US using all alternative fuels. and if i remember, they did say that hempoline was the best fuel that they had found.

  4. me - 2004 toyota matrix. love it. when we camp, as often as not we sleep in it. fits all sorts of big unwieldy things comfortably.

niffermouse - 98 hyundai accent. also love it. bought it used, it's a very reliable and fuel efficient little car.

  5. story in the Guardian.

Stunts to publicise the forthcoming Simpsons film have begun in earnest. A 180ft image of Homer Simpson waving a doughnut aloft has appeared adjacent to the ancient Cerne Abbas giant, the 17th Century chalk fertility symbol in Dorset. Though Homer is drawn in biodegradeable paint, local pagans aren't amused, saying that the proximity of Homer is disrespectful. Ann Bryn-Evans, joint Wessex district manager for the Pagan Federation adds that they'll be doing some "rain magic" to wash it away (which surely shouldn't be necessary given the current weather).

Until then, however, it's a picture crying out for a caption. You know what to do...
