The date that Toronto goes from hibernation to Motivation! Collective Concerts presents this special night that’s sure to get the city warmed up and jolt it from the winter blues.

Celebrate their second year of being a 9-piece deep funk explosion by headlining their first show at The Legendary Horseshoe Tavern. These eight soul brothas – and one soul sista – have had a great couple years; CD and vinyl releases, regular rotation on CBC, club and festival dates across Ontario and Quebec and opening spots for some legendary acts such as Bernie Worrell, Afrika Bambaataa and Lee Fields.
Also joining the celebrations;
The Heavyweights Brass Band
Blend the rich legacy of New Orleans jazz with modern funk, RnB and Latin for a high-energy live experience that pulls no punches. Since their formation in 2011 these guys have released two albums, headlined Toronto’s famed Koerner Hall and opened for such contemporary greats as Hypnotic Brass Band and Trombone Shorty.
The Julian Taylor Band
Plays “baby-making music†– soul-driven pop-rock inspired by The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and Bill Withers. Mr. Taylor is veteran of the Canadian music scene with seven albums, ten top-forty singles and a wealth of high-profile live shows to his name. This band, his latest reincarnation, is sure to get the dancefloor bumping.

About MC Abdominal:
Abdominal (aka Andy Bernstein) is a local hip-hop artist, who has been involved in Toronto's music scene for 20 year. What began as a passionate hobby for him, eventually became a career. He's now ben working as a professional musician for over ten years.
Abs has worked with many celebrated local musicians (DJ Fase, D-Sisive, Elizabeth Shepherd, Ivana Santilli, etc.), as well as many internationally acclaimed artists (the UK's DJ Format, Chali 2na and Cut Chemist from Jurrasic 5, Gift of Gab from Blackalicious, Kurtis Blow, Young Einstein from Ugly Duckling etc.). He's released three albums, both locally and internationally... "Flowtoation Device" (2001/PIAS), "Escape From The Pigeon Hole" (2007/Do Right! Music), and "Sitting Music" (2012/Pinwheel Music). The song "Pedal Pusher" (from "Escape From The Pigeon Hole") won the 2007 SOCAN ECHO songwriting prize for the best Canadian song of the year. And Abs co-hosted the annual SOCAN awards in both 2008 and 2011. He is also featured prominently on DJ Format's two highly succesful albums, "Music For The Mature B-Boy" (2003) and "If You Can't Join 'Em...Beat 'Em (2005). In addition to performaing regularly around Toronto and Canada, Abdominal has also toured extensively all over the world (England, France, Germany, Japan, Australia, etc.).

Featuring veterans of Toronto’s underground funk scene, The Soul Motivators dig deep into their influences, bringing you a fresh revival of a vintage sound. This is a 9-piece rare groove explosion with a hip-hop flair - they will motivate you straight to the dance floor!
Recent recordings of the band have been receiving regular airplay on Toronto’s CBC Radio 1, CBC Radio 2 and CIUT FM. Their original track ‘Until the Sun Goes Down’ was recently selected as the song of the week on the CBC Radio 1 show ‘Here and Now’.
Garnering attention for their energetic live show, The Soul Motivators have performed at some of Toronto’s finest venues including The Great Hall, The Rivoli, Lee’s Palace and The Opera House – where they recently played to a packed house opening for Lee Fields & The Expressions. A busy summer schedule included appearances at The TD Jazz Festival, NXNE and the Beaches International Jazz Festival. These days they continue to keep things on lock down with a monthly residency at the legendary Orbit Room in Toronto’s Little Italy.
With new recordings on the way and dates across Ontario lined-up, this band likes to keep it real, keep it right and keep it tight.

Fresh from a killer performance at this year's Bonaroo Music Festival, Los Angeles funk and soul band Orgone return to town with Toronto's The Soul Motivators.
Orgone appeared on Cee Lo Green's 2011 song "Fool For Love" as well as recordings by Alicia Keys and others. Members of the band have also played with Booker T Jones, Macy Grey, Bun B and more.

They have also played a ton of dates including Jazz Fest, the High Sierra Festival, been touring with the Roots, and Greyboy Allstars, and opening for bands as varied as Snoop Dogg, Sharon Jones and Gil Scott-Heron. With new management pushing Orgone out to as many dates as they can handle, the band have been selling out of merch on every road trip - so they decided that it was time for a new album for their newfound and rapidly expanding fanbase.
Somehow, amidst their insane schedule they have put together a brand new, exclusive and all-instrumental album for Ubiquity called Killion Vaults.
Showcasing the bands instrumental side the album plays (and looks!) like an old-school “library record†– packed with tunes for movies as yet unmade, and chase-scenes not yet driven. Like every Orgone record it shifts through multiple gears encompassing sly downtempo funk like the Hammond-drenched “Dramatic Times†and “The Interloper,†to bouncing percussion driven joints like “Counting One You†and “Impala,†while “Water Pot Pans†and “Dead Reckoning†add a nice new psychedelic-cinematic dimension to the Orgone sound.
Killion Vaults could easily be mistaken for a rare old collectible release, but as with all Orgone productions they made their blend of live organics as beefy as possible so it’s a great DJ record as much as it is a good listen.

Toronto’s nine-piece, deep-funk explosion The Soul Motivators return to Hamilton, Ontario with a show at This Ain't Hollywood on May 3rd.

As well as regular airplay on national and college radio, the band has racked up numerous club and festival dates across Ontario and Quebec and opened for legendary acts such as Lee Fields, Bernie Worrell and Afrika Bambaataa.
This funk machine boasts chanking guitar riffs, crisp horns and a screaming B3. The rolling bass and fatback drums will motivate you to the dancefloor and Ms. Persaud’s straight-up, raw vocal style will mesmerize all around. Their live show blends elements from across the spectrum – a solid soul review, afrobeat, the roots of funk and classic hip-hop breaks. Showcasing originals, rare covers, new joints and a few surprises, this slick show will keep the crowd moving all night long.
Offering an alternative to classic mainstream soul, the band gained local attention in 2012 for their love of these gritty, rare grooves from the early 70s. They released their debut EP in March 2013 to a fanfare from CBC Radio 1 - a glowing review by Toronto journalist Errol Nazareth and “Until The Sun Goes Down†was made track of the week on the afternoon drivetime show Here and Now.
The excitement quickly spread further afield with shows in Ottawa and Hamilton and CBC airplay in Halifax and Windsor. Then Frank Raines, head of Detroit based boutique label, Funk Night Records, heard the buzz across the border and signed the band for a limited edition 45.
2013 finished on a high-note with “Until The Sun Goes Down†featured on GQ.com’s Man of The Year video feature.
With further vinyl releases planned, an upcoming documentary soundtrack and summer dates in the works, this show is sure to bring a funky ruckus to Hamilton.
