  1. Cathy the Owlette and I are seriously considering going to moe.down at the end of August.

Problem is, we don't have our own transportation.

Is there anyone who would have a spare couple spaces in their car / van / bus? We will gladly pay our share of gas.

(Note: Cathy is supposed to be starting a new job in September, so there's still an off-chance we're not going, but we're aassuming we will be going at this point. We'll keep you up to date...)

  2. Cathy the Owlette and I expect to be there... is there anyone else who will have room intheir cooler for someone (maybe us, I'm not sure) to toss a six-pack into?

Also, can someone pass on the exact address to me (via [color:red]Private Topics) so I can invite a couple other friends?

  3. I'm looking forward to reading Barbara Ehrenreich's Dancing in the Streets: a History of Collective Joy when I get a chance.

I heard her interviewed on CBC's Sunday Edition last fall... she's apparently riled the religious right for suggesting that Christianity's rituals were at one time a little more, well, fun (to use Dr_Evil_Mouse's word, although I recall something about Christ eating and drinking with sinners, I wonder if we're missing something these days)... thanks for reminding me that this is a book I've been wanting to read.

As for the question at hand, I like living on the peripheries of this community where I can exchange ideas and experiences... the rest I just chalk up to being a fun-hog.

  4. Hey -- congrats on the new pup!

By the way, did I tell you we got three (yes, three) new guinea pigs last fall?

    Utter Mawnshtersh!

Have fun! Life is too short not to share it with the other wise and wonderful creatures of our little planet!

  5. Due to the passing of one near and dear to me, I'm really late getting word about about this... hope those of you in Ottawa can make it!

The Dusty Owl Reading Series Presents Melissa Laveaux

    Sunday 18 February

    5pm

    The Electric Gallery

30 Marier Ave. (off Beechwood, in Vanier)

    No Cover

To heat up the February cold snap, soulfunk musician Mélissa Laveaux is coming to the Dusty Owl stage this month, and bringing her unique brand of funk-folk guitar and classy vocals with her. Mélissa was mentioned as one of the 2006 ‘Frémissements locaux’ ("local noise-maker") in Voir's annual music review. She also received two Ottawa XPress ‘Best of Ottawa’ nominations for 2006: Best Folk Musician and Best Album of the Year. The new album Camphor & Copper has been receiving great reviews from Germany to back home in Ottawa. If you missed her feature at Capital Slam this November, now's your chance to hear the voice that's causing the stir!

Please note: Due to ongoing repairs at Swizzles Bar & Grill, we are still on the road. This month's show will be happening at the Electric Gallery (30 Marier Ave., just off Beechwood Ave in Vanier; check their website for directions.) It might be a little off the beaten path but this space is a whole lot of fun and we're excited to be visiting!

After the reading, as always, there will be an open mike for anyone who wants to bring poems, stories, or songs, and the Dusty Owl's famous Object of Desire contest. See you there!
