  1. And as for Rumsfeld quitting...

He just saw the writting on the wall and decided to leave on his own terms...

With the house run by the Dems, it was only a matter of time before they asked for his resignation...

The Dems and even some Reps have been pushing for his resignationa for a while now... The only thing that stood in the way was that the House was Rep run and good ol G-dub stood so strongly opposed to the notion... With the change in the house, not even G-dub could have stood in the way...

    Edit to Add:

Just wanted to clarify a point I made... The House can't actually force resignation, only the President can make that decision... They can just make things unbearable for Bush until the decision is made... Along w/ holding up the presidents agenda and using tools like Congressional Hearings to muddy the face of the President; they would be able to ultimately force the decision...

Rumsfeld, knew where the house stood... And where he stood in light of the new House...

  2. I know what they did, but did they announce the hiatus? I know they were planning to break up.

The Dead had announced it... But not as a hiatus... They had it in their heads that they were going to stop touring all together and probably break up all together... The over-head(cost of lugging the Wall of Sound and paying employees) was just far too much and they found themselves so far in debt, and that's not even considering all the back taxes they owed and all the money that Mickey's dad ran off with a few years prior... They just didn't see it as feasible anymore...

Why do you think they had that 4 night run at the Winterland and why Jerry wanted it all documented(filmed, later edited by Jerry and released as the Grateful Dead movie)... It was their goodbye... That was supposed to be their last run of shows... They had a bunch of guests over the 5 night run of shows...

  3. Yup, I had an e-mail from John (their tenor player, and designated "audio" guy) and he mentioned it. I'm looking forward to it (and not just because it's been about six months since I've seen them, and I'll miss them tomorrow night due to Fat Cats). Do you have a set list? If you need help with titles, let me know, and I'll try to help.

I'll definitely need help w/ a setlist, I don't know the names of any of their songs(MInd you they may mention the odd name in their pre-tune banter)... Usually when that's the case, I just cross reference shows already on the archive but if you're willing to help me w/ a setlist, it would definitely be greatly appreciated...

    Thanks for the offer...

  4. Yeah, I already have my gear bag packed, batteries charged, and I'm ready to go...

Looking forward to a fun evening, I'll let you know how the pull turns out...

P.S. - Brad, I don't know if you remember that I told you almost a yr ago taht I got a good pull of Mr Something Something but the band had asked me the same night not to post it... Well, last time they were through town, I threw them a copy of the show and I just got the go ahead to post it... I'll let you know once it goes up... I wasn't running the UA5 at the time but I still got a decent pull...

  5. The Waybacks are here in Edmonton AB tonight october 13... They will be playing at the St.Basil's Cultural Centre @ 10819 - 71 Ave, tickets are $15 in advance and $17 at the door...

[color:blue]Punchy, hook-laden rock, fluent fiddle waltzes, jazz-influenced numbers and celtic-tinged folk all figure into the sound of this genre-bending act. From the San Francisco Bay Area, we welcome back the Waybacks. With virtuosity and instrumentation suggestive of a bluegrass band - albeit one in which dynamic drumming is integral, banjo is conspicuously absent, and actual bluegrass material is a rarity

Before playing Red Deer (last night), they are just off the heels a run of shows in California that featured Bob Weir as an additional member... This was not their first outing w/ Mr. Weir, as he has joined the band on a few outings to form what has been refered to as the "Weirbacks"...

Edmonton welcomes them back for their long-awaited return as it has been nearly 2 yrs since their last visit, when they turned more than a few heads...

The "Waybacks" are here in support of a new album and bring a large collection of origial material, along w/ a catalogue of cover songs that includes a 20+ minute version of the Grateful Dead's "Cumberland Blues" that incorperates a stand-up bass...

If in the area, this is a show not to be missed...

See you all on the dancefloor...

  6. I noticed that the BT Forum doesn't get as much trafic as the Cavern, so I thought that I would give a heads up about a Slammin Jack show from 2005-12-30 and a Grassroot Deviation show from 2006-09-15 that were both just added to the archive and are available for download and/or stream... The links to both shows can be found in the BT Forum...

    Enjoy...

  7. Yeah, Tony is definiitely an amazing player...

First that I had heard of him was in NYC in 2002.. We were catching a couple nights of SCI(2 or 3 nights, I can't remember) @ Radio City on the lead up to the summer tour closer in Mass... Tony came up and joined the boys for a few tunes... I had never heard of him but everyone else seemed to have... He blew me a way... I've since listened to a bunch of different projects that he's done... Definitely a choice player...

That said, I'm sorry to say, there's definitely no possibility of me making it... My traveling is very limited until next summer when Katie and I get married... Until then, I have to save my trips for 'can't miss' shows... I like Tony but don't know if he's exactly in my can't miss category... And man weddings are expensive...

P.S. - I think that Cheese run was in 2002, then again I could be mixed up on the year... You know what they say, "All the years combine, they melt into a dream"... Hey, I just couldn't help myself to a good Garcia/Hunter quote

  8. Don't get me wrong, I in no way have any love for HMV, but if memory serves, there not pulling the Dylan stuff because someone else had access to it(ie Starbucks) but rather because Columbia Records decided to offer exclusive rights to Starbucks on a different Dylan release...

Not that it makes it right, but I understand their stance...

To tell you the truth, I'm not a big fan of Columbia Rcording's policies... I still remember the Phil & Dylan deal in Fall 1999 and Summer 2000 where people had to strip their recording rigs for the Dylan sets b/c of Columbia Record's policies surrounding taping... Columbia wants exclusive access to live Dylan so that they can charge top dollar for every live release they offer... They assume that if they allow live recording, they increase the supply and decrease the demand which woul decrease their profit margins(the Dick's Picks crew could definitely show them the errors in that train of thought).. And that's jsut one of their money grubbing polocies I dislike...

    But hey that's just me

    and Dancin Shoes
