  1. the response on San Francisco's boing boing

Greedy Grateful Dead widow burns down online show-library

    A reader writes,

Archive.org has been forced to take down over 1000 soundboard recordings of the Grateful Dead by Jerry's wife and a few (perhaps one) remaining member of the band.

"For years, Archive.org has served as the repository for the Grateful Deads copious electronic recordings. Now, the site will be limited to streaming "audience-recorded" shows.

"The reaction from the very large global Deadhead community has been very interesting, sociologically. People are confused, angry, depressed, grateful for the time they had, and more."

This is pretty disappointing. Deadheads made the Grateful Dead some pretty substantial fortunes over the years by acting as unpaid, volunteer evangelists for their commercial offerings. This is a genuine betrayal of the audience from a couple of greedy people who would line their pockets at the expense of the memory of the generous, mutually beneficial relationship between the band and its supporters.

  2. actually just heard Sunday nights are back on at 33, they just took a month off sort of thing

lately my favorite Brian Griffith show is Thursday nights at the Cat and Fiddle where Bri and Mark Stevenson do a duet thing... Mark knows a wack of tunes from a wide variety of genres... good times

  3. heard of Lazlo Hollyfeld before (wondered where lazlo got his name) but first I've heard of Lotus

You fuckin' dummy' date=' you told me to use Lazlo because I reminded you of the character in Fear and Loathing. You belong in a fuckin' nursing home.

I knows whats I've said, boy... jus ran with the name coincidence... will be stealin your meds from the home long before they catch up to me

  4. caught this act last time they played just passing through and ended up closin the bar as it was so good... really tastefully done stuff... fully danceable and entertaining

this act definately deserves a few souls to come out and see what they're about... if you're in hamilton check out today's Spectator article bout them

opening act Atomic Cosmonaut (whom I haven't seen yet) features members of popular local indie acts Chore and Mind of a Squid

    said formerly paisley

  5. after searchin like mad the past 10 mimutes just found it was It Makes No Difference and get back here to find Marco beat me to it... never been up on my The Band titles

Maud's definatly not a little bird on the vocals but I find it touching Garth opted to fit her in his band instead of leaving her home while he toured considering her being stuck in the wheelchair and all

met Garth and Maud at the reception afterward... truly awesome folks

  6. ditto on an utterly fantastic show... didn't think I'd be able to afford it then got guest-listed very kindly at the last minute by the Hamilton Music Scene organizer... great to see you guys there too Prosty

they closed out the show with Dark Star (a suprise for me) but seemed to fit the free wheelin attitude Garth and Maud gave off

Garth Hudson is a freakin musical genius... whether on the keys or on the sax he has a perfect ear for joining the tone of the room at any given point and a ba-zillion lines of colorful chops rolling around in his head... a true natural, effortless switching it up between the 5 or 6 keyboards he had surrounding him then grabbing the sax to mix it up some... amazing talent

wasn't sure how I'd like Maud but dug her just fine... the obvious love between her and Garth was refreshing to see and I found she held her own quite well... obviously a girl who never stopped bein a real hippie who doesn't give a damn what anyone else thinks about her... though her look is definately fundamentalist bible tent faith healer

highly recommended if you get the chance

as a super added bonus got to see Garth and Maud again the next night as they closed the Hamilton Music Scene awards ceremony with a moving 20 minute rendition of some Band song... Garth showed off his crazy range during a 12 minute solo grand piano intro that flowed effortlessly from gospelly to jazzy to classical to rock-y and had the 400+ room totally motionless, holdin their breath... just beautiful
