  1. So I just got off of the phone with a young and rather enthusiastic telemarketer selling an Edmonton Journal promotion that was being offered to only me and my neighbours on 89th avenue here in town (the exclusivity is quite a sexy sell if you ask me!I was already feeling a tingle).

    Coupla funny things:

    1) The call was from Toronto... gotta love the world these days, when a newspaper outsources its advertising to a call centre on the other side of the country;

    2) When I told him we weren't interested in the newspaper, he asked, almost shocked, "How do you stay on top of the news?!". I mentioned a couple of crazy alternate media sources known as the internet and television. What I failed to mention is that I could really care less about staying on top of the news.

Anyway, good for a Friday afternoon laugh...time to book outta work, methinks. You sods out east have been done the work week for a couple hours now.... i just realized, the poor kid on the call was still working at a quarter to six on a Friday. Hope he's got some good plans for later tonite!

    have a good one all,

  2. we've been reading the complete stories of Winnie the Pooh for our little guy just before bed - its really good stuff and, having never read a.a. milne previously, i quite like all of their personalities and comments each of them makes.

John's got all sorts of other good books (most of them Thomas the Tank Engine or construction oriented), and its a blast leafing through them.

It truly is the age of electronics, however... he's known for a while now how to change the movies in the DVD (from Nemo to Polar Express to Monsters Inc to Thomas and Friends and back again), and has a whack load more favourites than I do on Internet Explorer. When I was two, I thought the Fisher Price popper was high tech...

  3. i'm working the traditional 9-5 type job (the same one for the last 5 years which, in itself, is quite scary). Its a little less than traditional right now, because the last year and a half of it has been from my home-office in Edmonton with the rest of my colleagues in Kingston.

previous to this job, my employment was even less traditional - exploration geology in the NWT (and a little in Greenland just for shits and giggles). That was 7 days a week for 6 weeks, a couple weeks back in the real world and then another stint of work. did that in the summers and then drank myself to a degree over the colder months.

if I had the choice (with no strings attached and no responsibilities to shirk), i'd be back up north flying in bell 500's, drinking and smoking the evenings away and looking at rocks a few billion years old.

with a lovely wife and son, the current set-up is nearly ideal. 9-5 and home with the family doesn't get much better. working from the home office in a new city, however, is like a social deprivation experiment gone wrong - anyone know any potential friends they could hook me up with in Edmonchuck? :P

anyway, i guess what my ramble might be leading up to is the work schedule of preference really depends on your current state of affairs. if nothing is really holding you to a set schedule, take whatever comes your way. I don't think I'd ever do shift work though... i'd be a mess.

  4. I'm happy when the boys can win the 7-4 games and the 2-1 games.

I'm unhappy with this regional broadcasting crap... thankfully I don't hafta stomach another Saturday Night Canucks game with Greg Millen droning on about "puck pressure" (his newest and most favourite buzz phrase) and his intimate knowledge of the officials...

    yeesh...

  5. Gentle Persuasion

a long read, but worth some of the tidbits.... one of which is:

John Radsan, the former C.I.A. lawyer, offered a reply of sorts. “As a society, we haven’t figured out what the rough rules are yet,†he said. “There are hardly any rules for illegal enemy combatants. It’s the law of the jungle. And right now we happen to be the strongest animal.â€

What the US is currently doing and has currently done at Guantánamo for the last 5 years helps substantiate a lot of claims that they believe their actions and foreign policy are somehow justifiable.

Nothing would surprise me about the US government and it's global agenda!

  6. I used to visit the Forum a few years ago as CharlieDontSurf and found it pretty dynamic and worth some pretty constant posting...

Life does seem a little quiet around here, especially now that I live in Edmonchuck and check out Cavern West (as opposed to East) for any local news... this is kinda like opening the fridge to see if there's any extra beers (there never is).

I also miss seeing dogatthestation and his rather wonderful wife....

Rich Stadium ain't too bad, although it does get a little tedious heaing the Sens fans mock the Leafs fans mock the Habs fans, etc, etc.... why can't you all get along and realize that you all suck in the east ;)

The Cavern is good and I'll check out the Political Forum too, but it seems odd to have it stuck away on its own.... a forum for food and recipes kinda makes me chuckle...
