  1. A little more info about the peoples: Wayne Petti, known for his work as lead singer and principal song-writer for Canada’s alt-country favourites Cuff The Duke and keyboardist/vocalist for The Hylozoists, has taken a solo sidestep with his debut “City Lights Align†(Outside Music). In between hectic touring schedules with both Cuff the Duke and The Hylozoists, Wayne wrote an additional dozen or so songs and hooked up with producer Paul Aucoin to record “City Lights Alignâ€. Petti comments, “Working with Paul is always great. He's very easy going and he works fast. I wanted the record to be recorded quickly. I didn't want to spend a lot of time over analyzing things. I wanted the album to have little background noises and little imperfections. I wanted it to be as natural as possible. I think I've captured that.†The album echoes Cuff the Duke’s unique blend of country and folk with a more personal and stripped down edge, with songs that are highlighted with whistling, hand claps, and a swagger of group singing reserved for the best of live shows. “I play in a band already and playing solo is a great challenge for me. My approach to playing solo is totally different from my approach to playing in Cuff the Duke. Although, if there's a band on the same bill as me I hope they're willing to join me for a song or two. That would be fun.†â€City Lights Align†was released on March 13th. Wayne is currently touring in support of his release. Ken Tizzard’s years as the lunging bass player with the Platinum and Gold award-winning Canadian rockers The Watchmen and later, Thornley garnered him an international reputation as one of Canada's leading sidemen. Ken is an experienced showman with a string of top 10 singles and appearances from Russia to Australia to the Tonight Show. Now Ken Tizzard is redefining what we know about him with a break-out solo CD of words and music that land him somewhere between Bach and Nick Drake. Using the bass as his primary accompaniment “Quiet Story House…an Introduction†is unusual and warm. Mixed by award-winning Los Angeles producer John Whynot (Blue Rodeo, Bruce Cockburn, Big Wreck and Colin James among others) to help make Ken’s imagination come to life. “Ken Tizzard’s music is a blend of symphonic precision combined with a singer/songwriter’s solid melodies and transparent emotion. Built on evocative vocals and instantly memorable grooves, Ken’s sure melodies and lyrical journeys echo songs of passion and introspective style.†- Stephen Kray, C12 Records "It was not until I realized how totally alone I was that I finally began to discover my own sound" - Ken Tizzard Mike Yates has spent the last 10 years as an orchestral cellist, chamber musician, guitarist, bassist, bodhran player, and all around hired gun. Mike has been writing, performing, and recording music as long as he can remember. He has performed with numerous musicians and orchestras, so many that he has lost count. Mike has composed music for film, video, and media. Mike is a full time string music teacher, who somehow finds the time to write, perform, and record music almost full time. Mike performs more than 60 shows a year across Ontario, Quebec and the Eastern US. In 2002, Mike decided to take a break from being a “back-up musicianâ€, and begin writing his own music as a solo artist. Mike, the hopeless romantic, writes songs about love, love lost, and issues that have had an impact on his life and the lives that surround him. With his smooth and lyrical voice, lush and rhythmic guitar and deep and resonant cello playing, fans describe his music as a cross between Yo Yo Ma and Duncan Sheik. His music can be heard on New Music Canada, SOMA FM, CBC Radio 3, and numerous college radio stations across Ontario. With 2 solo albums (His latest “13 Stories†on Wind Up Records) under his belt, and a third album on the way for 2008, it looks like Mike won’t be slowing down anytime soon.
  2. Oh yeah, I'll probably be following him back from Kingston to Ottawa to catch both, it will be good times for sure

  5. The Jimmy Swift Band endeavors to forge their own path in Canadian Music. Since their inception their energetic and improvisational live show has helped the band develop a cult like following throughout the country. In recent history they have been performing 200 + shows a year - selling out venues and packing dance floors across North America. The JSB sound is original. Critics and fans have come up with a new genre to define it - Rocktronica. Coming out of Halifax, Nova Scotia, JSB consists of Craig Mercer on guitar, vocals, and effects, Aaron Collier on keyboards and effects, Mike MacDougall on bass, and Nick Wombolt on drums. Each member brings their own strengths to a powerful sound, which is greater than the sum of its parts. Their influences range from Daft Punk to Pink Floyd to Guns and Roses, and they meld aspects of these sounds together to create their original Rocktronica. Half of JSB’s repertoire consists of organic instrumental material with influences ranging from Daft Punk to St. Germain, while the other half displays mature songwriting, powerful vocals and memorable melodies within the framework of concise arrangements. Although both elements of the band’s sounds are starkly different, they combine the two effortlessly to bring the audience on an unforgettable journey with each live show. This tour follows up their 2006 release “Weight of the Worldâ€. Manipulating thick guitar and keyboard textures, and laying down a storm of rhythmic effects, the new album reaches for ambitious new levels of expression for the band. Anchored by Mercer's pop craftsmanship when it comes to writing direct and immediate tunes, the songs seem deeply considered and purposely deliberate. No longer simply cool grooves with lyrics and melodies tossed off on top, “Weight Of the World†contains tough, thoughtful material that consistently rewards repeated listening. The band has shared the stage with such acts as Big Sugar, Our Lady Peace, I Mother Earth and The Flaming Lips. Bullmoose is a Band of Brothers from Delta and Westport, Ontario. They grew and migrated to Montreal. 2007 marks the release of "Speaker to Speaker", their loud and proud best. Created at Breakglass Studio in Montreal under producer Jonathan Cummins (Bionic/Doughboys), the album was engineered by Jace Lasek (The Besnard Lakes) and mastered by Ryan Morey. “Speaker to Speaker†brims with classic rock and roll energy, soul rave-ups, heavy blues boogie and sketches of epic psychedelia. Guitarist Eric Lawrance and bassist Seamus Cowan belt out odes to freedom through an army of Marshalls, Traynors and Ampegs. Drummer and twin brother Jeff Cowan quarterbacks the deadly groove that leads into crowd stomping percussion jams with meaty guitar solos and brazen instrumentals. â€Speaker to Speaker†is the follow up release to their 2004 debut “Lessons Learnedâ€. Since then the band has toured Canada in it's entirety with great success playing many festivals and rock and roll venues. They've shared the stage with such great and diverse acts as Wide Mouth Mason, The Trews, The Illuminati, The Jimmy Swift Band, The Royal Mountain Band, The Exchanges, The Golden Dogs, Theory of a Deadman, and Jim Cuddy. There has also been much support through radio in eastern Ontario and Montreal with KRock, CHOM, The Bear, BobFM, CKUT, CFRC, and CJLO playing choice cuts from “Lessons Learned.†With influences ranging from The Kinks and The Beatles to Radiohead and Rufus Wainwright, the Montreal area Acrobat quartet was founded on a common interest: finding that special something with an emphasis on being a band about songs. In a city where crafty musicianship is in abundance, singer-songwriter Nathan Wilson and bassist Phil White found it a challenge when trying to find the groups other half. After a seven year run with their previous group, which saw the release of a hand full of EPs and performances in Canada and the U.S. with a variety of internationally renown acts, the pair set out once again; but this time knew exactly what they were looking for. “We took some time off to concentrate on songwriting and a more paired down acoustic show,†says Nathan, which earned them supporting slots for critically acclaimed songsmiths Rufus Wainwright and Ed Harcourt in New York, “Then we knew that to put something together again it would have to be something specialâ€. “We wanted to be part of a band that understood each other,†adds Phil “like brothers, people who could tour together and have a great time.†That kind of fellowship was finally realized in the addition of drummer Marek Michalski and guitarist Jay Hopkins, both filling out a line up with a rare connection that is obvious, both musically and ideologically. So much so, that you would never suspect the core is only one year young. The result is an impressive debut EP entitled “The Unbelievable Truthâ€: an 8-song record that runs the gamut both sonically and lyrically, from a wall of sound bordering unreserved chaos to the complete control of a singer songwriter’s subtle restraint, from intense to playful to the most delicate introspection.

  8. Rock Crew Productions is very proud to present GRAND THEFT BUS & THE SLAVES OF SPANKY double bill with special guest THE FUSSY PART at ELIXIR (14 Garrett Street) on THURSDAY MARCH 15TH, 2007. Doors open at 9 PM, this is a 19+ event. Advance tickets are $10 and on sale starting March 1st at Brian's Record Option, Zap Records, Chumleighs, Destinations, Renaissance Music, Elixir, or online at www.rockcrew.ca Hailing from Eastern Canada, Grand Theft Bus has garnered a reputation as one of Canada’s busiest and most exciting new bands. Although known for their sprawling exploratory live performances, the group’s first studio effort “Birth of Confusion†was extremely well received by both critics and fans alike, and serves well as an introductory probe into their vast repertoire of original material. On this album you’ll find an eclectic mix of tight, concise vocally driven pop songs to progressive instrumental compositions. Since it’s inception in 2000 the band has performed over 400 shows, including sell out shows in Halifax, Montreal, Toronto, and Vancouver. Grand Theft Bus has also been a mainstay on the summer festival circuit including sold out performances at the Atlantic Jazz Festival, the Evolve Festival, Burlington Vermont’s Northeast Kingdom Music Festival and the Harvest Jazz and Blues Festival in Fredericton, New Brunswick. In their travels the band has had the honour of sharing the stage with Canadian rock icons The Rheostatics, The New Deal, and Righteous Babe recording artists Drums and Tuba. Grand Theft Bus is currently working on their follow up to their sophomore album, “Flies in the No Flyâ€. Grand Theft Bus develops their songs with unlimited creative freedom while maintaining the utmost respect for the listener. This band loves making music. Slaves of Spanky are an incredibly original Rap/Hip Hop crew based in Kingston Ontario. The band draws influence from the likes of Cypress Hill, Beastie boys, Public Enemy and Deftones Well known locally for their diversity and incredible live show, Slaves of Spanky focus an equal amount of attention on Music and Entertainment, entertainment being the "theatrical" aspect of their live set. Musically speaking, the band has a rare lineup consisting of 2 vocalists, a keybordist/dj, a bassist and electronic drums. "We prefer to have two vocalists" they say, "it provides us with more opportunity to interact with the audience and generally get crazy".. While their 2005 release “Gas Money†was recorded underground, the Slaves of Spanky sound is bigger and bolder than ever. Filled with melody and clever rhymes, “Gas Money†raised the bar for the Hip Hop group. A Slaves of Spanky live show is high octane, energy driven entertainment from start to finish. Their raps dig deeper into the human mind with all that fun loving charm that makes them one of the most unique musical talents to come along. An unforgettable experience on tape or on stage. The Fussy Part’s first release, “ben EP,†certainly does not make the group stand out amongst the throngs of other Atlantic Canadian bands. Not at all interested in combining their years of experience and various influences in mastering their own unique sound, they focus entirely on image and have no sense of expression in their music whatsoever. They would never inspire you with their epic and ethereal soundscapes or conjoined guitar melodies. Far be it for this Fredericton five-piece to expertly craft songs that are beautiful and dangerous, sensuous and coarse. With this new release, The Fussy Part are definitely not in any position to take the Maritimes, let alone Canada, by storm. The Fussy Part do not feature veteran musicians Nick Cobham (All of Green, Olympic Symphonium, Fat Jebus) on guitar and vocals, Kyle Cunjak (Olympic Symphonium, Melonworks) on bass and laptop, Bob Deveau (Grand Theft Bus) on drums and laptop, Steve Dunn (All of Green) on guitar, and Dennis Goodwin (Grand Theft Bus) on keys. Even if they did play together, their strong friendship and respect for one another would be entirely useless in creating the sort of complex and rich arrangements The Fussy Part are not known for. Since the winter of 2005, The Fussy Part have garnered next to no burgeoning following to speak of. Despite a complete lack of stage presence and their extreme egotism, they have not been consistently drawing larger and larger crowds. Their totally unoriginal music has failed to be a refreshing breeze of post-rock in a region where such offerings are sparse. This band has been unsuccessful in illustrating their absence of passion in what they have created. This band has not made people warm on cold nights. The Fussy Part’s first release, “ben Ep,†was not released in January of 2007. It will not feature five sonically varied tracks that will perk up your ears. Furthermore, it will not promise to be one of the best releases Atlantic Canada will have to offer in 2007. Rock Crew Productions is a concert promotion company based in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. 9. I usually try to take something home from a show, especially if I like an act. Everything I've heard so far is great, so I don't think anything will disappoint
  10. I'm a pretty big fan of both Slaves and GTB so I'm going to love it regardless. I am curious to see how FP is live.
