Hey Deeps ... good to see more shows on your schedule these days and thanks for the kind words....I look forward to hearing what the thunder said at some point soon...music for a rainy day?...cu soon round the G-spot bro...
Del ... I'm sure those trios you described are awesome bands...sure is a lot of great music being played these days...I appreciate your enthusiasm for their music and I'm sure it is truly warranted .. steve's bold statement probably arises from our both living in Guelph and our comraderie as musicians ... he has seen us many times and we have played together when the timing permits... so many great bands...I need to make more time to see them ... Peace!

I'm no expert but it seems like sex is quite the profound communication...I think it's depth is underrated/misunderstood ...isn't it an expression of love? ...not just lust... if mismanaged the bond that it creates can go haywire and lives can end up in tatters, spiritually and materially...ie: i heard somewhere that most murders come from domestic disputes...divorce is harrowing/devastating/demoralizing for parents and children...and true love is hard to find because so many people are afraid to be who they really are...it's song fodder but for god 's sake there are other topics to write about...oh my achin' dick...
anyways...I would say don't take sex lightly...or it'll fu©k you up...
fu©k the church!...discover yourself ... who the hell am i?....Really!

it depends on the degree of interpretation...melodically, rhythmically etc...Aretha Franklin didnt' write Respect but she sure rewrote it...I agree with the Dead tunes example as well...alot of my favourite dead tunes are covers...Doing covers shows a respect for your influences...and for the audience if you're not well known ...Doing covers well also shows how much you've researched the craft of songwriting ... if you can successfully interpret a famous song with great understanding and creativity ...maybe you can actually write a song with a similar degree of integrity...(although if you take it too far just join a tribute band) from what i hear these days the art of songwriting is something to be wondered about especially wrt some of these jam bands who just want to jam ...if you try to put jam on a song that's got no bread/substance ...the jam just falls on the floor...ewwww!...sticky mess...I think performers need to find a balance between songwriting and musicianship...something the dead came close to...doing covers is like a lane on the highway to writing good songs ...if you write good songs and they sit nicely beside the more famous covers that you do I think you're doing a good job...with the patience of developing a following...a band can reduce the amount of covers they do if they want and play more originals...Sometimes bands do covers because they are not confident in their original material...nothing wrong with acknowledging weak material as such...and entertaining the people that showed up at the club...that type of humility may come from a high standard and good songs can come out of the wake of lesser songs...I do go on...

Hey Esau...did we talk with you at Jersey's...were you that guy we were talkin to...thanks for speakin out...and the band played on...
-
I don't know if you got down..but we had fun...thanks to those who attended...keep dancin'

Passenger will be playing a set of original music from 10-11 ...there will houseband and open stage afterwards...come on out and enjoy some of the best songwriting and group improvisation you'll ever want to hear...
-
songs for songs sake or songs for jam's sake?? ...does the song ask for a jam?...if so give it some...if not ...don't...
let's hope the end of indulgent soloing is nigh...but real conversational group improvisation is probably the next step ...you hear it in jazz music and now more conventional/popular forms have adopted it...thanks to the Dead et al...Phil and Jerry ...
I believe that an increased fearless sharing of the sonic canvas is the way things are going ... mistakes are opportunities...perfection is just a concept not a reality...good songwriting will lead us to good jams ...better jams...more inspired collaboration ... it's just around the next corner...

no ...your'e wrong ... your'e depressed...you;re projecting... and stop posting your morose neurotic musings you over-literate a$$hole...kid-ding!...keep up the good work ...great investigative reporting...By Jove I think he's got something
on the other hand...could be man...depends on how things look in your world ... the sky's blue and the earth is round in mine...not kidding...

I usually look for good authors

I hate everything and everyone on this lousy rock...i wish everybody would just fu©k off and die...kidding!...most musics have something good about them...even if it's the ability to overproduece really well...Wow!...that record was really overproduced...just listen to hwo they drained all the humanity out of that guitar sound...I just wish that the good music that is getting made these days was given more juice in the media...but hey ...the revolution will not be televised...so I guess "you just gotta poke around"...not much is shakin' on shakedown street these days...oh well...Jim
-
I refuse to hate...I like what Jimi Hendrix said about the power of love versus the love of power...isn't looking down on people just hating the haters...does it do any good...thanks...much love to all you mutherfuckers!!

hey basketball fans...what dou you think about the vince trade...or do you care...as we are all aware, teamwork is a central attribute/component to music performance ...I'm thinking that this may be some sort of an interesting case study to see how the raptors will do after having rid themselvers of there weak link/albatross ... teamwork being more important than individual acheivement...amazing talent ...happy see him gone tho...Go raptors!!

Rule 4. Don't take the email addresses of all the Skanks off the board and make a database for a newsletter for your band...people really hate that.
well put.
i wonder if there's a band in toronto that has recently done this. ive been wondering about a couple of emails from a band i have never seen, and whose "list" i have never signed up for.
Can anyone say "Passenger"?
good call.
not the one i was thinking of (newer, more afrobeaty, apparently), but bang on with passenger.
arent passenger playing some crap bar in woodbridge tonight?
-------------------------------------------------
Wow!...exempliary post dude!...bashing a band publically for sending out emails about where they are playing ... how dare they email me ... this is not to be forgiven ... let's say bad things about them on the internet and getting people to agree with us...yes!...that's progressive
some people seemed to get pissed off pretty easily...I wonder what's really bothering them...press delete?
listen....we're not selling viagra...we're letting you know that we're out here working hard, playing music that might be up your alley...
yeah I grabbed some of your emails off of this forum...thought you might be interested....I'll take them all of off of my lists...obviously that isn't cool with you ... and this is the way it's getting communicated...
sounds like Deeps might have gotten word of this type of thing and is trying to figure out what pisses you all off...I'm not pissed off...but I'm certainly not inspired by what I'm reading here...
...slandering a group of striving artists...is this a constructive use of your energy?...aren't half of you people musicians anyways? ... I don't understand ...
"Passenger sucks man...I wouldn't go see them if you paid me... they emailed me without my permission...let's say bad things about them and post them on the internet...that's just not cool!...emailing us...they're just like wal-mart and Zellers and and George Bush!....yeah!...yeah...that's right man...for sure man...pass the joint ...ah that's the stuff!"
