Anyone check out Frank Black at the Horseshoe last night? I was there. Great band! Heavy guitar blues/hard rock. I really wish I hadn't forgot my ear plugs though. My ears are still ringing.
-
sooooooooo...
Was that good? It seemed pretty good. Mind you, I was distracted.
-
Oh man, can't I stop partying already? I just got back from Vancouver and now I've GOT to go see GTB tonight! I'll be there. Have mercy on me, I'll be tired.
Love and peace to all...

It's all firmed up. We're heading out in 45 minutes or so for Whistler Village. Staying up there for two night in the Shoestring Hotel. Tonight BQ and tND, tomorrow night some private house party that we got invited to at the SCI show. Supposed to be live music there too! Does the party ever stop? (I hope not)
Love and peace to you all... See you next week...

There seemed to be a collective of us hippie (jamband) types in the back corner by the one bar. I danced through a couple of times in my blue tie dye. Getting fucking crazy to that insanity coming from the stage.
-
Just for the record, SCI sounded completely awesome on Wednesday night.
1: Outside Inside, Desert Dawn, Sittin' on Top of the World, Latinissmo, These Waves, Close Your Eyes, Smile
2: Black Clouds, Missin' Me > Freedom Jazz Dance, Trail of Tears, Sand Dollar > Under African Skies > Rollover
E: Tom Thumb's Blues
AND, as if that wasn't enough, Thursday night made Wednesday night sound like it was merely a sound check! They were so hot on Thursday night that I've got a suntan from dancing three rows back!
1: Got What He Wanted > Jam > Orange Blossom Special, San Jose, Texas Town, Joyful Sound > Rivertrance > Tom Sawyer
2: Way Back Home > Jam > Lonesome Fiddle Blues, Big Shoes, Walls of Time, Come As You Are > Bend Down Low > Jam > Way Back Home
E: Restless Wind
Just in case you skimmed that set list and didn't think much of it, please note, they covered RUSH! Now what can I say about that except WOW!!!
PS: Did I mention that I love the Vancouver area? I need to fly home before I spend all my savings here.

Anyone going to be there other than myself and a couple of my whacked out friends?
Anyone have any good suggestions for cheap accomodations in Whistler? (Is there such a thing?)
-
I completely agree about the New Deal show. I was one of those first timers who continually tripped over my jaw as I danced. Truly unbelievable. Myself, I am planning on heading to Whistler to see Blue Quarter & the New Deal; and this time I'm getting decked out in my club clothes rather than looking like an old hippie at the back of the room in my tie dye.
-
Well, the guitarist was at The Slip show with us afterwards so maybe that's the case. However, I would have thought that someone in the crowd would have posted a setlist by now.
-
Does anyone know where I can find the setlist from last night's String Cheese show in Vancouver? I've tried the normal sources but to no avail.
-
Oh no! I just realized that the New Deal and Blue Quarter are playing up in Whistler on Friday night! Does this party ever end?!?! Anyone going?
-
WOW! That was a GREAT night! String Cheese sounded just fantastic and covered Paul Simon's "African Skies". And then, THE SLIP. Thos guys are some really serious shit! I loved it! I was in the middle of dancing like a maniac up front and centre when I turn around and Bill Nershi from SCI is standing there bopping away to The Slip himself!!! I shook his hand and thanked him for the show.
I met 'Spud' there from the Cavern. Thanks for saying hello and sharing a good dance! I'll see you again tonight!
Hey Tonin, I'm having a blast out here! You should be here!!! Don't worry, we've got some great parties ahead of us yet!
Love and peace!

I saw Yes at Massey Hall a few years ago. I went with a buddy who was a huge fan. I wasn't a huge fan. I sort of respected them but I don't think I even had an album. Anyway, let me just say that THEY ARE ABSOLUTELY THE SHIT!! It was the best concert that I have EVER seen!

Okay Weezy, I'll keep an eye out for you. I have no idea what I'll be wearing. Just look for a 6'2" guy with long cury blonde hair and a goatee hanging out with another 6'2" dude with a beard and a beautiful young lady. We too will be wasted but not in the way that I'd like (no contacts out here). We'll be dancing and being goofy as much as we can! Were you at funk night at the Commodore last night?
-
Holy moley! This city is killing me! Funk night at the Commodore last night, SCI and the Slip tonight, SCI and tND tomorrow night, Jurassic5 at the Commodore Friday night. My poor liver.

I'm thining that I'll do it all. Fly to Vancouver tomorrow, drive to Calgary and see Kottke saturday night (anyone have a floor to offer for sleeping), catch New Deal in Calgary after Kottke, stick around for SCI in Calgary(?), drive back to Vancouver, check out Brickhouse at the Fairview on Monday night (awesome if you've never been), take Tuesday night off, SCI and The Slip on Wednesday night, SCI and The New Deal on Thursday night. Wow. I'll be spent... and it'll be awesome! I'd love to hook up with everyone anywhere. How do we get in touch?
Love & Peace

KOTTKE
I'm thinking of driving from Vancouver (where I'm flying into to see SCI and The Slip) all the way to Calgary just to see Kottke! He's the most amazing thing ever. Anyone know a good place to stay? I'm looking for low cost.
-
Live in Vancouver? I wish! I'm just flying out there to see SCI and The Slip and Brickhouse at The Fairview and hopefully some other great stuff! You say the New Deal is playing eh? I haven't seen them yet. Perhaps I'll go there after the SCI show. Are there any other good after parties on that night?
Say hello to me! I'll be the tall dude with the long curly blonde hair. I'll be there with my brother and his girlfriend. We're always looking for good times!
-
Any chance that I'll see anyone at either of the String Cheese shows next week in Vancouver? What about The Slip after party? Any takers?
It's going to be fun...

I've seen him twice at the Casbah and he is absolutely outstanding. On the otherhand, I am not a Rheostatics fan and I was unimpressed when I saw them. In other words, a Rheo's fan or not, Tielli is worth seing. He pulls more sounds out of his guitar than anyone since Hendrix.
-
I'll be there too! (With bells on!) (Not really) (The Bells)
See you there...

A great weekend of music all around. I have but one question: Is it just me that's noticed that the Saloon has become a total sausagefest at Frontier now? I think it's time I look for a scene with a more hospitable gender mix.

Evolve... Wow!
Hard to say anything else. Just wow. I'm really missing all my camp site friends.
See you at Frontier!?
