  1. I love Blues Traveler. I have seen them a lot over the years with both the old lineup (w/Bob Sheehan) and the new lineup (w new bassist and a keys player). Both lineups are great and put an an entertaining show.

If you get the chance to see them check it out. Unfortunately I haven't caught them since the summer of 03, but that was a fun show. If they come near you it is worth the price of admission.

  2. I think people bash Trey because they are immature. Why would anyone waste so much time on something they claim to dislike? It is fine to post an opinion on something when a discussion is happening, but to harp on something over and over again and try to convince people to think how you do is ridiculous.

I have been a fan of Phish and Trey in particular since about 1994. Not the most hardcore longtime fan, but certainly a big enough fan to travel many thousands of miles and spend many many thousands of dollars seeing the music I learned to love. Did I go to Phish shows to get a message and learn something from the band? Hell, so - that is what real formal education is for. I was inspired by the friendship they had, their incredible talents on the instruments they play, and their ability to engage a crowd and allow everyone to have a good time.

I have been to all of the major festivals and posted my opinion of Coventry on here a few times. The fact that some of the bashers on here weren't even at Coventry is hilarious. They are bashing because of some crappy tape they heard and what their super heady friends have to say. I was there, it was not the best show I ever saw, but I wouldn't trade it for the world. It was an amazing experience, and I will long remember it for the emotional, difficult weekend that it was.

I like the Trey band and all the incarnations of what it has been. I can't wait to see and hear the new version either. I am sure he has some excellent ideas and a new direction to go in. Even though I don't know the man, I am concerned that he is throwing his life away with drug abuse. He has an amazing ability, it would be a waste to lose him too early.

I guess the reason people bash Trey is the same reason people bash anything, they feel threatened. Why someone feels threatened by a band changing styles or direction is beyond me. I guess that is why only those who haven't really been out of their parents houses too long are so concerned with what Phish or Trey does. I found as I went through life other things got much more important (wife, kids, pets, parents, job, bills, etc). The older, more mature fans I meet are more grounded and realistic.

Sorry to ramble, but I hope Trey bashing goes on for good. It will make life much easier for me when trying to get tickets.

  3. I am not a fan of WalMart at all, and I avoid it if I can. I would rather support somewhere like Zellers which at least is Canadian.

However, when I heard they closed to the store to prevent unionization I was pretty happy. I have worked directly with a unionized enviroment for many years, and I have worked with some outstanding individuals who took their jobs seriously, did a good job and put in every effort to do things well. I also have worked with a number of slugs, who took complete advantage of the system, were lazy, cheated the system and caused nothing but trouble.

I understand and value the contribution unions have played in the workplace over the years. We have beenfitted very well from unions and they served their purpose. The problem is that unions have gotten greedy in the last few years. There are so many goverment mandated safety nets in Canada that protect workers that the reason unions existed are now obsolete. We have regulations on workplace safety, workweek hours, dangerous tasks, etc. These are the cornerstones of union demands. Unions striking so they can bump their salaries by another 5 bucks an hour to 30/hour for often unskilled labour is ridiculous.

As I said, the unionized workplace has made the working world better for everyone, but their usefulness has diminished and they are regarded more and more as a joke.

  4. I am really looking forward to anything that Trey decides to do. He is one of the most talented and creative artists producing music anywhere these days.

I wouldn't say that 'Trey is Phish', or that Jerry was the Dead, but I would agree with the fact that they lead their respective bands, and that the bands without them would be (or are) sh!t.

Lots of folks slammed on Trey for his performance at Coventry, and it wasn't the best I have seen him, but it would be tough as hell to end something you've been doing for your tentire life in front of 60000 people. Some fanboys can sit in front of their computers and bitch and moan about everything, but if you were there in the moment at Coventry it was beautiful.

I look forward to the Trey band and I'll go check them out whenever I can. Hopefully the wook Phish kids will have something else to do by then.

  5. I am travelling to NYC with my wife in May, and I was wondering where you stay when in the City. I usually stay at the hotel Pennsylvania which is right across from MSG, but they seem to have increased their rates a lot since my last visit a few years ago!

Anywhere you stay that is relatively cheap and close to MSG?

  6. I was always able to enjoy Pantera back in the day and they were great to listen to. I recently saw DamagePlan open for Slayer which was also a great time. My tastes have slowly moved away from metal over the years, but it was great to see such a talented buy like Dimebag play live. He really was amazingly talented. Even if you don't like metal you should be able to appreciate his talent and ambition.

Crazy that the venue would allow someone all the way in with a gun and even up on stage.

  7. I am open to spinning some discs for people on this board to possibly ease the negative attitude. My list is here:

    http://db.etree.org/colinw

I will spin whatever you want within reason. Shoot me a note at ccw@nb.sympatico.ca and we can work it out.

If anyone has anything from my want list I would love to trade for it too.

    Colin

PS - Oh yeah, Zero, Kung, Luke, loser, - whatever you go by these days - all the String Cheese you want!!!

  8. Some of my other pollocks have some marks and smudges outside of the print area. I think it has something to do with the way they are printed by hand??? Maybe someone with printing experience knows?

Tube - if by work ethic you mean busting ass all the time, and doing more than he ever needs to for the fans, I guess Pollock did adopt Trey's work ethic. brutal ::

  9. Not overly scary, but Into the Mouth of Madness always kind of freaked me out.

Also, Michael Moore's films scare me because people take everything he says and think that it is all true and unbiased.

  10. Hey ColinW, if you were in Prague during the 98 Europe Summer tour, did you happen to see 07-02? That second set blows my mind...........is there a better Ghost? I think not.

I was at that show. I caught the whole Euro 98 tour. The Ghost from 7/2 Copenhagen was something. It was still funky as hell and early in the life of Ghost so noone knew what to expect. I actually have one Ghost that ranks ahead of it though - from 8/3/03 IT last summer.

The whole second set of 7/2 is gold though:

Ghost -> Runaway Jim -> Prince Caspian, You Enjoy Myself

  11. The SPAC Piper is probably the best version I have seen. Previously it was the 7/6/98 Prague version which is sick. The SPAC version takes top spot though. Really good stuff. The Piper from Great woods this summer was pretty good too, although it never got SPAC-like.

There are some kickass moments from both summer tours, although the early leg did seem tighter than the second leg. Check out the Moma Dance --> Free, and the Suzy Greenburg from 6/17 Brooklyn. Also the second set from both SPAC nights which are amazing, Halleys --> crosseyed --> Slave from Deer creek is nice as was the Tube --> Antelope from second night, -7 from Alpine and the YEM-->2001-->YEM.

There are some sweet moments from the second leg though - The ACDC Bag and Birds of a Feather from 8/10, the fun of second night Great Woods 8/11, The first set from Hampton 8/9 which is sick, The YEM/Ghost and Piper/Sneakin Sally from Camden. I have listened to Coventry a few times and it is sloppy, but there are moments of brilliance there as well. I was there and enjoyed every minute of it since I knew it was the last time I would be enjoying something I love, and listening to the shows takes me back to the exact spot on the lawn where I was on those days. Some people love to bitch about anything and whine, but put yourselves in the shoes of the band. Where you ar your best the last time you quit something you had been doing for 20+ years - the majority of your life, while standing in front of 80,000 people. It was tough time as a fan and for the band, not because of a bad show or set, but because it was an emotional end to a great trip.

  12. Looks like a great setlist. I will track it down and check it out to see how the playing is. I hope TAB gets out and tours soon. Maybe next summer?

I can't see them covering many Phish tunes, only maybe when one of the other guys comes out to guest here and there will they cover something Phishy. That being said, I wouldn't mind seeing the odd cover from them.

  13. If someone ordered one and doesn't want it I will gladly take it off your hands. I tried to preorder on the last day and they said the stock had run out. Stupid me for waiting.

I'll buy it for what you paid and throw in some CDs too from my list.

It's not my favourite print, but not bad. It will be a nice memory of the event.

I was actually there, unlike some others passing judgement, and I enjoyed the trials of the weekend. It made for a fitting end to have to struggle so hard to see something you enjoy so much. I would love to have a great poster to be a momento of a great weekend.

Drop me a line if you're interested in selling:

  14. It is a sad day to remember Bobby. I love Blues Traveler and had the good fortune to see them 13 times before Bobbby passed. He was a great guy and I managed to meet him a few times including an unforgettable, bizarre few hours in Amsterdam!

The 'new' BT is damn good as well, but I still miss seeing Bobby up there when I see them. I am sure you guys will enjoy them at moe.down. They still throw down a great show.

  15. I have just returned from Coventry. I didn't have to walk as far as most because I arrived halfway through the second set on Saturday due to previous comittements. I hiked the four miles and caught the last set and everything on Sunday.

I have read a few posts here and I am going to stop now because it is embarrassing how moronic some people can be. I feel bad for them. Everyone is entitled to free expression of opinion, but some people really need to step back and think for a moment before typing.

The shows were not the best ever. I have personally seen many better and heard lots much better. The fact that an uncontrollable element (rain) caused so much trouble was unfortunate. I have given a trememdous amount of time, money, and devotion to this band, and I would have walked 50 miles to see the last show, let alone the 4 I had to walk. The inconveniences of the rain, mud, walk, etc were just that - minor inconveniences. That is how I saw them for this show anyway. There isn't any other band I would do all of that for just to see on concert. There isn't another band I will ever do that for I don't think. Hopefully I'm wrong.

To totally slag the whole event and the organizers and band is very narrow minded. They did an incredible amount of work between days to make life better for us inside. They did the same type of thing at IT. I have been to all of the large festivals since the Clifford Ball and enjoyed them all. Why people are mystified by a traffic jam when 80,000 converge on a two lane road in the middle of nowhere confuses me? The crowd inside was pretty good for the mostpart, friendly and helpful as usual, and really into the show.

Sure, Trey wasn't at his best the whole time but he did play some beautiful tunes and played them well. Seeing Page choke up was tough for me. He has always been my favourite and seeing him so vulnerable actually made me sad as well. I wouldn't have like it if they played Gamehendge or any other old stuff just for novelty sake. People can take Fluffhead and shove it for all I care. They played a good selection of tunes and they had fun. They welcomed their family on stage, paid tribute to their outstanding technical and road crews, paid tribute to the fans, and their lives over the past 20 years.

After all of the fuss and everything else there is nowhere I would rather have been last Sunday evening.

I am actually happy the band is stopping. The whinny snotty kids who are taking over this scene are ruining it for everyone. Not only do they grab all of the available tickets but they go home and bitch about everything when they are finished. Pathetic. I have been obsessed with this band for the last 10+ years and I now will move on. They will be my favorite jamband for ever, and I am truely thankful for the experiences I have had in relation to Phish.

  16. So who else was an idiot and didn't order their Coventry poster? I thought I had an orderin but it didn't seem to go through correctly via Dry Goods.

I know you only could order 1, but if anyone grabbed one and doesn't really want it anymore I'll take it off your hands.

    Thanks for any help!

    Colin
