5th Annual Jammys All-Star Concert To Be Held April 26 At The Theater At Madison Square Garden

Grateful Dead Bassist Phil Lesh To Host, Perform

An impressively eclectic group of artists ranging from revered singer/songwriter Ryan Adams to roots reggae hero Burning Spear are coming together for the 5 th Annual Jammys Awards Show and All-Star Concert to be held April 26 th at the Theater at Madison Square Garden.

Les Claypool, frontman for alt-metal godfathers Primus, respected piano man Bruce Hornsby, rising newgrass faves Yonder Mountain String Band, southern boogie torchbearers North Mississippi All-Stars, downtown jazz greats Medeski Martin and Wood, one-man band Keller Williams, Midwestern jam stars Umphrey's McGee and Vince Herman of Leftover Salmon are also confirmed for the show, which will be hosted by Grateful Dead bassist Phil Lesh, who will also perform.

More big names, including this year's Lifetime Achievement Award winner, will be announced in coming weeks. In the meantime, fans can vote for the year's best album, song, DVD, download, new artist, tour, live show and archival release of the year at www.jammys.com/vote .

Founded as an alternative to mainstream award shows and produced by Relix Magazine, Jambands.com and Peter Shapiro, The Jammys is a celebration of the best in live improvisational music performance that pairs the brightest lights on the burgeoning jam music scene with stars from the pop, rock, reggae, gospel and jazz realms. In its first four years, The Jammys has become one of New York City 's premiere annual live music events and one of the top grassroots music events in the world, hosting countless historic, once-in-a-lifetime musical moments.

Last year's show featured the onstage reunion of The Black Crowes, who joined Gov't Mule for a version of their 1992 hit “Sometimes Salvation,” as well as a finale that featured sacred steel phenom Robert Randolph, legendary Allman Brothers Band guitarist Dickey Betts, String Cheese Incident's Michael Kang and guitar hero Warren Haynes (of The Allman Brothers Band, Gov't Mule and The Dead) jamming with Steve Winwood on his Spencer Davis Group hit “Gimme Some Lovin'.” Daily Variety declared: “The producers—or some cosmic forces—really outdid themselves at this year's kudofest.”

In year's past, such off-the-wall collaborations as rapper Slick Rick with the Disco Biscuits, The B-52's with Particle and Blue Oyster Cult with moe. have wowed sold-out audiences. In 2002, the concert-ending finale featured an all-star jam that included Trey Anastasio and Mike Gordon of Phish, Warren Haynes, Bob Weir of the Grateful Dead, and Robert Randolph, among others. Solomon Burke, The Allman Brothers Band, John Mayer, Blind Boys of Alabama, Dr. John, Toots Hibbert, Perry Farrell, Susan Tedeschi, Michael Franti of Spearhead, Harlem Gospel Choir, Black Thought, The Tom Tom Club, Marky Ramone, the Del McCoury Band and Bernie Williams of the New York Yankees, among many, many others have also performed at The Jammys in years past.

In between performances, nine Jammys trophies are handed out in categories voted on by fans, while a Lifetime Achievement award is given out at the end of the night. In years past, Lifetime Achievement trophies have been bestowed upon B.B. King, The Meters, the Grateful Dead and Steve Winwood.

5TH ANNUAL JAMMY AWARDS:

PHIL LESH CONFIRMED TO HOST AT THEATER AT MADISON SQUARE GARDEN ON APRIL 26

NORTH MISSISSIPPI ALLSTARS AND UMPHREY’S MCGEE EACH GARNER THREE JAMMY AWARD NOMINATIONS

February 22, 2005 -- Legendary bassist, Grateful Dead alum, and bandleader Phil Lesh will host the fifth edition of the Jammy Awards on April 26 at The Theater at Madison Square Garden. From their inception in 2000, the Jammys have catapulted to become a major national awards ceremony, paying tribute to live music with unique on-stage couplings.

The premiere grassroots music event in the country, the 5th annual Jammys will recognize the best in live music performance from the past year. As of February 21st, voting is open to the public on Jammys.com, JamBands.com, and Relix.com. The Jammys are presented by Relix Magazine, JamBands.com, and executive producer Peter Shapiro.

The first Jammys ceremony was held in 2000 at Irving Plaza with an attendance of approximately 1,000. The growing awards show migrated to Roseland for two turns before a major upgrade to the Theater at Madison Square Garden last year. Unique collaborations between distinguished musicians of differing backgrounds have become the hallmark of the Jammys; the benchmark event has featured the best acts from the worlds of alternative, gospel, jazz, funk, southern rock, hip hop, electronica, bluegrass, and country, allowing each live music segment to stretch to twenty minutes.

"We expect another memorable night of music from an eclectic group of musicians. The Jammys always provide musical magic with one-night-only collaborations," said Jammys Producer Peter Shapiro.

"Every year the talent and excitement at the Jammys seems to exceed the previous year. Fans should expect more unforgettable performances this year," says Steve Bernstein, President and Publisher of Relix Magazine.

Hosted by sacred steel virtuoso Robert Randolph, last year's Jammys featured performances from members of Dr. John with Widespread Panic’s John Herman, Solomon Burke with The Derek Trucks Band and Susan Tedeschi, String Cheese Incident with Perry Farrell, Steve Winwood, and a surprise reunion between The Black Crowes' Chris and Rich Robinson with Gov't Mule.

Of last year's show, The New York Times commented, "the concert celebrated the cooperative, genre-hopping spirit of jam bands." RollingStone.com observed, "The Jammys have become notable for their diverse list of performers and on-stage collaborations." The Village Voice declared, “The music rarely stops, making fans the biggest winners at this loose-limbed ceremony honoring the icons and young guns of the increasingly overlapping roots and improvised-rock scenes.”
